This position is in the Upstream - Chevron Americas Exploration and Production (CAEP) Legal Department that provides timely and fit-for-purpose legal services to its Americas Upstream exploration and production business units and headquarters groups. This position serves the Rockies Business Unit (RBU), headquartered in Denver, a business unit responsible for onshore land acquisition, exploration, development, and production activities, primarily in Colorado. The position requires upstream oil and gas legal experience, providing oil and gas contracting and legal advice to clients.
The attorney to be hired will be part of a tightly integrated team coordinating legal initiatives and providing comprehensive, high-quality legal advice and advocacy. The attorney is expected to be an involved, strongly productive team member, working directly with and reporting to the Managing Counsel for the RBU in Denver. Strong analytical, problem solving, and oral and written communication skills and good judgment are essential. The ability to work closely with business clients, other in-house counsel, legal analysts, and outside law firms is important. The position requires working closely with, among others, Asset Development; Land and Business Development; Value Chain Optimization/Commercial; Environmental Management; Finance; Health, Safety and Environmental; Corporate Business Development; Operations; Corporate Affairs; Supply Chain Management; and Compliance personnel.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
Providing legal advice and counsel on a broad range of upstream and midstream issues impacting RBU at the federal, state, and local levels.
Representing the Company in negotiations with landowners/royalty owners, joint interest owners, contractors, suppliers, customers, and their legal counsel over exploration, production, land, gas sales/processing, gathering, and other agreements.
Drafting, reviewing, and approving complex contracts across a full range of land, business development, operations, supply chain, and VCO/commercial matters, as well as significant transactions, acquisitions, and divestitures, and other business activities.
Working with clients and the Litigation team to manage and resolve disputes with third parties.
Offering general corporate and legal advice on compliance requirements, risk exposures, and mitigation in areas such as antitrust, bankruptcy, corporate governance, employment, health, safety, and environmental, information technology, procurement, public lands, and policy.
Working closely with Corporate Affairs on U.S., state, and local advocacy, legislative and regulatory strategy, local community affairs, and the full range of external stakeholders.
Partnering with other Law practice groups, including Environmental and Safety, Litigation, and other Upstream Law Groups, as appropriate.
Partnering effectively with and managing outside counsel
Required Qualifications:
Exceptional oral and written communication skills (strategic interviewer and thoughtful listener).
Ability to work independently and with initiative and to build collaborative relationships with clients and team members.
Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze legal risk, while finding pragmatic, compliant solutions to client problems.
Demonstrated ability to multitask and deliver high quality counsel under tight deadlines.
Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctorate from an accredited U.S. law school.
Active membership in the State Bar of Colorado, or actively admitted in another U.S. jurisdiction.
Upstream oil and gas legal experience (preferably 5+ years), including experience drafting, negotiating, and closing oil and gas transactions and providing legal advice and counsel to clients.
* The successful candidate will need to meet the bar admission requirements in Colorado.

The anticipated starting salary range for this position is $160,000 – $185,000. The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.
