Your responsibilities will include:

• Ensuring all equipmentis prepared to teachers' specifications
• Organisation, preparation, repair, cleaning, transport and collection of equipment and materials.
• Assisting and supporting in practical lessons and enrichment activities
• Understanding the Schemes of Work & syllabi of Science in order to prepare for practical lessons
• Preparation of stock orders
• General administration
• Ensuring full implementation ofHealth and Safety regulations, including carrying out risk assessments
• Organising thesafe and secure disposal of hazardous waste
• Organising the efficient storage and record keeping of chemicals, equipment and machinery
• Carrying out safety checks on equipment and recording faults and action taken
• Assisting in the development of appropriate resources, schemes of work and teaching strategies in the subject area
• Managingthe allocation of work across the technician team,ensuring an appropriate quality of the work, and arranging training, appraisal and performance management
• Assisting and advisingstaff on the preparation and layout in the classrooms for practical exercises, undertakingdemonstrations and helping students with learning activities when required by the teacher.
• Ensuring thesafety, repair and general maintenance of all resources, equipment and tools, and advising when any maintenance or inspection is beyond your competence
• Ensuringthe welfare and care of plants and animals in the science area and the security of equipment
• Making up special equipment or modifying from existing equipment as necessary from sketches or instructions supplied by the science teaching staff

Job Summary

As a senior lighting Technician for East Dunbarton Council the successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team who undertake the design of new and upgrading projects to LED through the capital works program, they will oversee and address any complaints and enquiries through the LMMS system ensuring the operational staff have the required tools, stock and equipment to undertake the works safely and within budgets.

The senior lighting technician will oversee and approve the designs of all new works and review any new housing development applications received from the council’s development team and other stakeholders, providing technical information and ensuring the response is timeously actioned and ensuring the design is compliant to the required standards.

Ensuring the team also undertake scheduled routine inspections and compliance testing as well as planning and programming of external works ie Christmas decoration installation and removals.

The successful candidate will also oversee the revenue and capital budgets ensuring compliance with the council’s procurement policies and ensuring best value is achieved.

They will also participate in an out of hour emergency stand by provision on a rota basis ensuring the network is safe and compliant.

PVG / Disclosure Scotland

The following criteria applies to all roles within East Dunbartonshire Council where PVG/Disclosure checks are essential criteria

Where the post you are applying for is considered Regulated Work under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007, successful candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check, prior to confirmation of employment being made by East Dunbartonshire Council.

Please note, successful candidates will be expected to meet the cost of the relevant check which will be deducted from the successful candidate’s first salary payment.

In specific circumstances the payment could be deducted in instalments from an employee’s wages following commencement of employment. Approval in such circumstances will be made by HR Services Lead.

Should an employee leave in advance of the payment being deducted, the full amount will be deducted from the employee’s final salary.

The criteria outlined above will apply to existing employees of East Dunbartonshire Council who apply for roles for which a PVG/Disclosure check is required.
