We are a Ministry of Justice business and provide critical and time-bound services to HMPPS, and are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with any combination of:

• Two years' experience working in a role as a plumber or equivalent
• Be familiar with and able to work to Water Supply Regulation and Control of Legionella L8 requirements
• Experience working on commercial or industrial heating and water systems
• Good working knowledge of relevant health and safety requirements
• Plumber qualified to C&G 6035 (Plumbing), C&G 6189 (Plumbing and heating) and NVQ level 3 in Plumbing or equivalent
• Good Health & Safety knowledge.

To become an accredited Medicines Management Technician, or complete reaccreditation to transfer skills where appropriate. To become accredited to assess PODs according to the Trusts criteria. Principle Responsibilities

• To manage the estates and facilities function across the school including the supervision of external contractors and maintaining clean, safe, and secure premises and grounds.
• To manage, maintain and develop the physical resources on site to optimise their use for staff, students, and the community to include carrying out handyperson tasks, routine maintenance and refurbishment, porterage and minor repairs.
• To support the Senior Leadership Team in their role in relation to the management and monitoring of the repairs and maintenance budget.
• To support the Senior Leadership Team in their role in relation to the strategical running of the estate and successful delivery of all capital projects.

Main Duties

• To monitor the condition of furniture, fittings, buildings, grounds and environments; and to draw up schedules of repair, maintenance and decoration with support from the Senior Leadership Team.
• To ensure that any projects which do not come within the approved delegated budget are raised with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure they are correctly procured and reflected on the risk register.
• To obtain quotations for larger works from approved suppliers and undertake supplier benchmarking in line with school policy and procedures.
• To undertake minor repairs in-house where possible, including redecoration and DIY/improvement projects, always ensuring full health and safety compliance.
• As main keyholder, to maintain the security of the school and be responsible for the control of keys across the school and for maintaining a register of keys issued and a key log.

Security

• To lock and unlock the premises as required, including outside of school hours when necessary.

• To set security alarm systems, report any potential security breaches and respond to any alarms or other callouts following agreed procedures
• To carry out regular checks of CCTV and alarm systems, locks, fire safety appliances, security gates and perimeter fencing, and ensure any necessary repairs are actioned.

Health and Safety

• To carry out/oversee risk assessments and policies related to the operational, daily H&S work of the school.

DUTIES

Your duties as a School Caretaker / Site Maintenance Operative will include:

• Be a keyholder and attend to the opening and closing of the school daily (this can include weekends and evenings as the school has boarding provision) at the agreed times, as required. The preferred shift pattern is intended to be 1000 - 1800 hrs, Monday to Friday

• As part of the Site team, be responsible for general security at all times, making sure all windows are closed securely, and doors are shut and locked securely in all school buildings and outbuildings

• You may be called out at unsociable hours or at weekends to deal with security problems, make emergency repairs or allow access to any contractor who may be working on the site, in school holidays or weekends

• Ensure that all reasonable steps have been taken to prevent people trespassing in the grounds

• Assist with the delivering planned preventative and reactive maintenance as directed by the Site Manager

• Chaperone contractors on site, as required

• Undertake grounds maintenance appropriate to the seasons/time of year

• Receive and check goods and supplies and take them to the appropriate place for storage

• Support the Housekeeping Team

• Ensure that all refuse is disposed of promptly and stored away from the main building

• Ensure that a clear passage is maintained on fire escape routes

• Have experience in a similar role (desirable)

• Be honest, reliable, flexible in approach to duties and hours of work
