The sophistication of the LIS requires additional clerical work in obtaining the proper labels for tests and in maintaining the paper transmittal sheets for easy retrieval.
• Enters orders into the Clinical Research Information system (CRIS) for outpatients according to the complex research protocols requirements. This requires clerical duties to match handwritten orders to the patient visit and entry of the appropriate request in the CRIS.
• Trains members of the Phlebotomy Service in the accessioning and processing functions as well as higher grade Medical Technologists from other Services within the Department of Laboratory Medicine to accession and process specimens for evening, night, and weekend coverage. Instructs users to access the Clinical Research Information system (CRIS) and to enter test results and order comments into the computer.

The certified GS-8 Pharmacy Technician (Procurement) is responsible for assisting in procurement of prescription medications, nonprescription medications, and supplies in a highly complex area of Pharmacy Service at within the Orlando VA Healthcare System. This responsibility mandates compliance with all Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Food and Drug Agency (FDA) and all federal rules and regulations regarding contract compliance, purchase card procedures, reconciliation requirements, control point rules, controlled substance purchasing, purchasing documentation maintenance, and general inventory control processes. • Prior to fabricating the impression, the technician is responsible for careful examination of the ear and its environs, cleaning of the area as needed, placement of an oto-block, and visual confirmation of oto-block placement/coverage.
