The Adult Orthopaedic Inpatient Therapy at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital is looking to recruit a motivated, organised and reliable Band 4 Therapy Technician to work on the adult inpatient wards.



· To assist in the delivery of therapy services by supporting Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in the assessment and treatment of highly complex patients. This will include independently treating patients post-operatively on the short-stay ward and supporting our patient pathways.

· To provide appropriate therapeutic interventions to patients referred by therapists and be able to progress these treatments as part of your own patient caseload, progressing patients along clinical milestones and ensuring safe and efficient discharge from hospital.

· To independently assess patients prior to day case procedures and facilitate therapy discharge pre-operatively where appropriate.

· To promote a rehab ethos on the ward, which involves encouraging patients to dress in day clothing, independent washing and dressing, walking to the toilet and sitting out for meals.

· To be responsible for monitoring and ordering specialist equipment and materials required by the inpatient therapy teams. This requires liaison with both suppliers and therapists to ensure that cost and efficiency measures are considered throughout the process.

2. Discharge Service Provision 2.1 To be responsible for the provision of a high quality patient focused dischargeservice to patients of the Trust and help ensure that service provision isflexible and responsive to patient needs. 2.2 To provide advice on the technical aspects of the service. 2.3 To facilitate the provision of medicines to patients, to assist in their timelydischarge. 2.4 To check patients own medicines and those dispensed ready for discharge fortheir suitability for supply at discharge and highlight any shortfalls or querieswith the patients prescribed/ not prescribed medications and the dischargeprescription to the ward pharmacist. 2.6 To support the dispensary in the timely dispensing and supply of discharge medication. 2.9 To counsel patients as identified according to procedures and ensure that alldischarge medicines are current. 3. General Service Provision 3.1 To provide a high quality, patient focused pharmaceutical service to inpatients,out-patients, discharge patients, community clinics, and outlyingnursing homes if needed. 3.2 To work in the dispensary to assist in the medicines optimisation process andas part of the weekend/late duty rota. 3.3 To work as an ACT in the dispensary, and if required at a ward level. 3.4 To demonstrate patient focused approach including optimisation of patients knowledge of their medicines. 3.7 To communicate with patients and health care professionals. 3.8 To input prescription information in the pharmacy computer system for dispensing and supply of medicines to patients. 3.9 To collect and handle prescription monies according to Government and Trustpolicy. 3.11 To have a working knowledge of pharmacy stock control and ordering systems. 3.12 To have a working knowledge of all procedures, legislation or nationalguidelines relating to the storage and dispensing of unlicensed medicinalproducts, controlled medicines, oral chemotherapy and clinical trials. 3.14 To be working as an ACPT (accredited pharmacy checking technician) adhering to the minimum 8 hours per month. This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week) for a pharmacy technician to play an integral part of the pharmacy department. A challenging and rewarding opportunity has arisen to join the pharmacy team and specialise in Education & Training of the technical workforce at the RNOH.

We are seeking a self-motivated, innovative and enthusiastic individual who will be working alongside the Lead Education & Training pharmacist. They will be responsible for training the medicines optimisation pharmacy technicians and other pharmacy support staff in the relevant training programmes for self-development as well as to improve the Pharmacy service.

Key responsibilities include:
• To lead, develop and maintain the medicines optimisation service at ward level
• The post holder will be responsible for leading the team of ward based technicians and managing their induction, training and appraisal and ensure standardisation with the Medicines optimisation service across the department
• Contribute to education and training and development of the pharmacy technical workforce
• Provide specialist pharmacy technical input into medicines optimisation contributing towards both operational and strategic development
• Contribute to the provision of a high quality patient focused medicines optimisation service to patients of the Trust
