This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week) for a pharmacy technician to play an integral part of the pharmacy department. A challenging and rewarding opportunity has arisen to join the pharmacy team and specialise in Education & Training of the technical workforce at the RNOH.
We are seeking a self-motivated, innovative and enthusiastic individual who will be working alongside the Lead Education & Training pharmacist. They will be responsible for training the medicines optimisation pharmacy technicians and other pharmacy support staff in the relevant training programmes for self-development as well as to improve the Pharmacy service.
Key responsibilities include:
• To lead, develop and maintain the medicines optimisation service at ward level
• The post holder will be responsible for leading the team of ward based technicians and managing their induction, training and appraisal and ensure standardisation with the Medicines optimisation service across the department
• Contribute to education and training and development of the pharmacy technical workforce
• Provide specialist pharmacy technical input into medicines optimisation contributing towards both operational and strategic development
• Contribute to the provision of a high quality patient focused medicines optimisation service to patients of the Trust
• Be a role model to all pharmacy staff
We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, forward thinking and pro-active Pharmacy Technician to join our progressive team at RNOH. There is extensive scope for the successful applicant to develop on both a personal and professional level through exposure to all departmental activities, contributing towards portfolio building and the opportunity for further roles in the future.
Working closely with the pharmacy teams, you will:
• Contribute to the provision of a high quality patient focused medicines optimisation service to patients of the Trust
• Support pharmacists in service provision and extending the role of a pharmacy technician
• Help audit the service against set standards and assist in the review of service provision
• Ensure safe use of patients’ own medicines to optimise cost efficiency
• Provide specialist pharmacy technical input into ePMA & POA digital systems, contributing towards both operational and strategic development
Carry out medicine histories, advice on medications to be stopped or continued for surgery and escalate for review to pharmacists

It is an exciting time to join our department as we implemented ePMA in the Trust in Autumn 2022. Alongside the expansion to the theatre facilities, there are ever growing opportunities to contribute to medicines optimisation. Our pharmacy dispensary has recently been relocated to an innovative and purpose built area which also has dedicated office workspace and improved facilities for staff training, research, staff rest areas and dedicated patient consultation and waiting areas.
