This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a close and supportive Operations team within Strategic Pumping and Trunk Sewers. You will focus on maintaining and improving our strategic pumping stations across northeast London and supporting the team on larger-scale projects.
The role of this technician is to perform a range of activities to ensure that all the plant and equipment associated with strategic pumping stations and trunk sewers in London are kept serviceable and ready to be operated safely and efficiently.
What you’ll be doing as a Process Technician
- Completing routine checks, basic planned preventative maintenance, and problem-solving to ensure the smooth running of the pumping station.
- Completing monitoring checks to ensure the plant is running efficiently and identifying trends.
- Completing safety tasks to ensure the site is safe to operate, including statutory testing for legionella, fire and housekeeping.
- Operation of large storm pumping stations to manage our customers’ network.
- Operation of large mechanical equipment to provide safe isolations of plant and hydraulic flow.
- Completion of confined space entries to complete inspections, maintenance and fault finding.
The standard working week starts at 7.30 am and finishes at 3.36 pm, Monday to Friday. However, the Pumping Team also work a standby working pattern on a five-week rotation basis.
A duty standby allowance is paid for participating in the standby roster, and in addition to this allowance, a call-out fee and overtime are paid for all out-of-hours work.
What you should bring to the role
- Previous experience working in an outside manual role.
- Experience working within a pumping station, similar industry or background working with mechanical equipment will be beneficial.
- The ability to work under pressure and in stressful situations.
- We are looking for someone passionate about customer service and the environment, with a desire to learn and make a difference. To be a key member of the team, but also the ability to work on their own.
- We need someone who has a ‘can do’ attitude and proactive approach to work.
- You have to be ready to be trained in safety procedures including confined space entry.
- A full driving licence is essential.
