Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust is a mental health and community trust that provides a wide and growing range of services across the boroughs of Bexley, Greenwich and Bromley and also services in Kent. Oxleas Prison Services Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust and provides the pharmacy services to the prison pharmacy contracts. Due to the recent contract award from NHS England we are now providing pharmacy services to the Wandsworth Prison and are recruiting to newly established posts.

If you are a pharmacy technician wishing to gain experience in medicines management and administration work in a prison setting, this post could be for you. The post-holder will provide medicines management services to the prison house blocks on rotation. You will also work in the dispensaries. You will be an integral part of the pharmacy team.

• You will be assisting our team with the day-to-day duties. • You will screen the fungicide screening, this will include learning about the key fungal pathogens, how to keep live cultures and incorporate them into the biological assessments.
• You will execute the insecticide screening, you will observe insect behaviours and evaluate biological assessments.
• You will handle the herbicide screenings. You will follow-up the pre-emergence and post-emergence preparation and treatment.
• You will be responsible for growing different crops and weed species, assessing the level of crop damage inflicted by novel compounds and market standards and looking at phytotoxicity types.
• You will be cropping seeds from mature plants to ensure a reliable stock of seeds to use in the herbicide screening platforms.
• You will focus on the preparation work for the herbicide & insecticide screenings, this will include learning about the key weed and insect species. Learning to successfully germinate, propagate and crop seeds for the herbicide screening. You will also learn how to grow select plant species for the insect rearing for our in-house insecticide screens.
• You will learn all the current protocols and formulations for the screenings that are carried out in house and apply this into sample preparations and final applications of the novel compounds.

What you'll need to succeed

• You have a HNC or HND degree level or equivalent in Biology, Microbiology or Plant science.
• You are a keen plant or horticulturalist - you have a good all round knowledge of Biology and demonstrable application of these skills into practical work.
• You have a PA1, this is a safe handling of pesticides.
• You are a good observer, are handy and you feel comfortable working with crop protection products. Laboratory experience is a plus.
• You have a good attention to detail and you can work consistently to required standards.
• You have good IT skills for data handling.
• You enjoy working in a small team and you can work autonomously.

Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust is a mental health and community trust that provides a wide and growing range of services across the boroughs of Bexley, Greenwich and Bromley and also services in Kent. Oxleas Prison Services Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust and provides the pharmacy services to the prison pharmacy contracts. Due to the recent contract award from NHS England we are now providing pharmacy services to the Wandsworth Prison and are recruiting to newly established posts.

The pharmacy department has a long history of innovation, with established prescribing guidelines, excellent relationships with medical staff, a strong culture of leading clinical audit and research projects and an excellent publication record. All of these attributes we wish to extend to the prison pharmacy services.

If you are a pharmacy technician wishing to gain experience in medicines management and administration work in a prison setting, this post could be for you. The post-holder will provide medicines management services to the prison house blocks on rotation. You will also work in the dispensaries. You will be an integral part of the pharmacy team.

Successful candidates will be offered the following bandings as follows:
• Those with an Accredited Checking Technician(ACT)/Medicines Management (MM) qualification will be offered the role as Band 5
• Those without ACT/MM qualification will be offered the role as Band 4. On successful completion of the relevant qualification, individuals will be moved up to a Band 5. Training as an ACT or MMT will be offered by the service upon review

The post-holder will be based at the pharmacy department at HMP Wandsworth.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
• To provide a medicines optimisation service to HMP Wandsworth with the professional support of a prison services pharmacist.
• To undertake medicines reconciliation for prisoners admitted to GMP Wandsworth. To dispense prescriptions and stock items when in the dispensary.
• To work towards accreditation as a checking technician and/or medicines optimisation to provide final dispensing checks and medicines administration services.
• To ensure high standards of work in the dispensary, in clinics and when out on the wings and to ensure all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are read and adhered to.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION, PLEASE READ:

All applicants must be willing to undertake National Security Vetting in order to work in a Prison Setting. This will be completed as part of the pre-employment checks through Oxleas and the prison vetting team.

Proof of ID, needs to include 1 photographic ID

Proof of address documentation

Non-UK passport holders will need to have correct documentation (right to work in the UK) and a Home office Share code.

5 years address history will be needed.

About the team

As member of the Building Maintenance Team, you will provide technical support and advice to colleagues within the Team and your main tasks will be inspecting and specifying works to vacant properties, dealing with non-routine repairs.

About the role

We are interested in receiving applications from people who may not necessarily meet all the JD requirements but who have a keen interest in repairs and a firm commitment to customer care and quality. On the job training will be provided to the successful applicant.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Providing technical support in relation to routine and non-routine maintenance works.
• Supporting other departments as directed, including tenant management organisations and housing cooperatives, as necessary.
• Managing contractors and ensures best value is maintained.
• Delivering technical expertise in the handling of disrepair claims.
• Ensuring safe working environment for contractors and members of the public in respect of technical issues.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

• Ability to use a computer system, with a basic understanding of M.S. Office, Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Understanding the health and safety at work act, fire risk assessments and asbestos regulations.
• Understanding of and commitment to the Children’s Act and Vulnerable Adults Act.
• Ability to undertake technical surveys, prepare detailed specifications/ estimates for repairs, raise accurate works orders and monitor to completion.
• Ability to prepare objective reports and correspondence on buildings and technical repair issues within set timescales.
