The National Park Service (NPS) is looking for temporary employees to work on a variety of wildland firefighting crews in Moose, WY (Grand Teton NP). A Wildland Firefighter (GS-07) serves as an experienced leader and member on an Hand, Fuels, and Prescribed Fire crew performing various duties. On a Hand crew, locates fire line, directs and participates in fire line construction, backfiring and burnout operations, tree felling and holding/patrol mop-up operations. On a Prescribed crew, directs and performs prescribed fire operations including line preparation activities such as brush clearing and hazard tree removal; ignition, monitoring, holding, and mop-up. Monitors fire behavior, fire effects, and fire weather on prescribed fires and wildfires. On a Fuels crew, directs and participates in fireline construction, backfiring and burnout operation. During initial attack fire suppression activities, locates fireline, leads brush clearing, tree felling and holding/patrol/mop up operations. Participates in prescribed fire operations.

This position perform the full range of custodial work including: cleaning and servicing vault toilets, buildings, campgrounds, and emptying trash receptacles. These positions are required to operate a government vehicle to perform assigned work and may provide general labor assistance to others in the maintenance of buildings, grounds, roads, trails, etc. These are uniformed positions and must be able to respond to visitors politely.

There are three districts hiring at Yellowstone National Park.

North District:. Elevation at Mammoth is 6,200 feet. Temperatures vary from an average of 70 degrees Fahrenheit in summer to sub-zero at times in winter. A school is available, with kindergarten through 12, in Gardiner, Montana, five miles north of headquarters. Free bus transportation is provided for school children between Mammoth and Gardiner. Many community facilities such as stores, a drugstore, day care, motels, and restaurants are available in Gardiner. A medical clinic is available in Mammoth. All other services are available within 55 to 75 miles from Mammoth.

Lake District: The approximate elevation is 7,700 feet with an average temperature of 70 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer to sub-zero in winter. During the winter months, the snow accumulation on the ground averages 30-inches. During the time period of November - April, the interior park roads are closed to wheeled vehicle traffic and only accessible via snow machine. The closest neighboring communities for year around amenities are Cody Wyoming (64 miles - 2.5 hours via snow machine) and Jackson Wyoming (98 miles - 4 hours via snow machine) During the summer months Lake community facilities include a store, medical clinic, motels, and a restaurant. All other services are available at Cody or Jackson Wyoming. Housing is available for this position.

West District: including West Yellowstone MT, Madison Junction WY, and Old Faithful, WY. The nearest developed town is in West Yellowstone, along with a medical clinic, year-round post office, grocery stores, and a K-12 school. Elevation is approximately 7,000-7,700 feet above sea level, and temperatures can range from -30 degrees Fahrenheit in winter, to 80 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer. Old Faithful has lodging available in the summer and winter seasons, a summertime medical clinic and post office, as well as general stores. Winter accessibility is limited to snowmobile use and roads are groomed nightly.

Duties include:

• Respond to calls regarding wildlife-caused traffic jams (e.g., bear jam) along roadways.
• Take necessary actions to manage the human-wildlife interface and protect visitors and resources by successfully reading animal behavior, specifically black and grizzly bear behavior, and implementing proper hazing/aversive conditioning techniques to move bears off roads/out of developed areas.
• Provide visitors with information about bear ecology and behavior, how to stay safe in bear country, and ethical wildlife viewing techniques.
• Work independently, both in front-country and back-country settings, around potentially dangerous wildlife such as grizzly bears, black bears, mountain lions, bison, and moose.
• Patrol public use areas, such as campgrounds and picnic areas, to look for and secure unattended bear attractants as well as educate visitors about proper food storage techniques.
• Collect and enter data into Microsoft Access and/or Excel databases.
• May assist biologists with the trapping and immobilization of bears.
• Post closures and other warnings signs, which may include carrying and installing signposts in the ground over an expansive area.
• Retrieve dead animals such as deer, pronghorn, and elk from road corridors or developed areas.

A Wildland Firefighter (GS-03) is an entry level crew member on a Helitack (helicopter) crew. Performs assignments such as developing a working knowledge of fire suppression and fuels management techniques, practices, and terminology; may assist in more specialized assignments such as backfire and burnout, construction of helispots, helitack operations, and performing hover hookups.

A Wildland Firefighter (GS-04) is a trained wildland firefighter on a Helitack (helicopter) crew. Loads helicopters, determines weight calculations, completes crew manifest and access remote areas by helicopter to construct helispots, or to attack small fires, hot spots, and spot fires. May be assigned to carry out specialized assignments such as tree felling, backfire, and burnout operations; utilizes a variety of specialized tools, equipment and techniques while actively managing wildfires. May be required to operate light vehicles and 4X4s.

A Wildland Firefighter (GS-05) is a trained and experienced wildland firefighter on a Helitack (helicopter) crew. Loads helicopter personnel and cargo considering methods, weight distribution, necessity for securing, total weights, etc. and completes manifests of personnel and equipment being transported to the fire or other work site. May exit helicopter in remote areas to construct helispots, or to attack small fires, hot spots, and spot fires. Gathers and considers information on weather data, topography, fuel types, and fire behavior in responding to wildland fire incidents. May be required to operate light vehicles and 4X4s.

• Participates in developing and updating standards and guides on upland, riparian and wetland wildlife conservation practice specifications and recommends approval of these standards.
• Determines training needs, plans for and gives training. Helps develop new and improved training techniques, procedures, visual aids, and devices. Provides on-the-job training for groups and individuals.

• Assist higher grade maintenance employees in the performance of maintenance tasks.

• Issuing backcountry permits and maintains the backcountry reservation system.
• Accurately describing camping areas at high elevations and remote locations.
• Making visitors aware of general and specific mountain safety hazards.

Duties:

• Serves as a Crew Leader for a residential, overnight Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) program for 15-18 year olds including camping four nights per week.
• Responsible for the security, safety, and control of teen enrollees at all times on duty in a shared community living situation.
• Provides resource education lessons to enrollees using the Yellowstone YCC Leadership Curriculum at least 1 hour per day.
• Responsible for establishing the spike camps, organizing cooking and clean-up, pitching tents, driving youth crews, counseling enrollees, and coordinating work projects.
• Responsible for leading teen work crews on a variety of land management projects using short and long-handled hand tools, chainsaws, and other standard construction equipment.

• Directs and coordinates most aspects of the day-to-day operations of two, month-long residential programs serving 15-18 year olds and staff.

Role - Cleaner

I am currently recruiting for a client in North Wales who are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Gardening Team Lead to assist in the management and maintenance of nature reserves and walking trails managed by Open Spaces, and in their promotion to the public to support on the below;

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with programmes of work for the conservation management of semi-natural nature reserves, including Local Nature Reserves
• Assist with maintenance programmes for managed nature reserves, including undertaking of site safety audits
• Assist with survey and monitoring duties, and with the maintenance of related information systems
• Undertake and assist with guided walks and other events for the public and educational groups
• Assist in the development of promoted walking trails
• Assist in the development and production of interpretation material relating to the management and promotion of nature reserves and walking trails
• Implement with tact and discretion such byelaws as may apply to sites managed by the Service
• Deputise for the Countryside/Country Park/Access Wardens as required
