The purpose of Women's Health IDT Program Coordinator is to augment the Women Veterans Program to ensure outreach, inclusion, and interdisciplinary delivery of comprehensive health care for women Veterans throughout the West Texas catchment area.

The Social Worker (Program Coordinator)

• Conducts outreach activities across the catchment area pertaining to women's health.
• Provides a variety of psychosocial assessments, case management, advocacy, crisis intervention, brief solution focused counseling and family services with women Veterans and their families who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical and social problems in collaboration with PACT SW and Behavioral Health.
• Provides services at an advanced practice level to Veterans and their family members, to assure biological, psychological, social and environmental needs are addressed.

The position requires specialized knowledge in the assessment, diagnosis, & treatment of a variety of general mental health disorders/conditions. The employee is the subject matter expert on suicide prevention, functions as part of the Multidisciplinary Treatment Team & is involved in case assessment, treatment, & discharge planning.

Major Duties:

• Maintains a list of patients determined to be currently high-risk for suicide and monitors their care to assure needed services are being received.
• As appropriate, consults/collaborates with providers regarding their delivery of care to high-risk veterans. Provides education and facilitates best practice. Will provide direct patient care for same purpose.

• Incumbent receives soiled personal wearing apparel in bulk from buildings and other medical centers. Classifies and sorts the various items into different lots according to cleaning formula used and the finishing process to be used.
• Places clothing on hangers for processing through the steam finishing cabinet.

Advanced Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist. Employees are trained to work in one or more difficult and complex modalities performing procedures related to these modalities as well as performing general diagnostic procedures. At this grade level, any assignment in a single modality must demonstrate significant complexity. Such assignments are unique, perhaps with expert specialization in complex areas of radiologic technology, Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) regulations, and intermediate QM type duties within the program.

Technologist at this level requires advance education in Magnetic Resonance Imaging, ISTAT applications, insertion of intravenous catheter in patient's peripheral vein for IV contrast, injection training and knowledge of general imaging radiography. Employees at this level is considered fully functional and able to carry out their assigned tasks independently. Performs technical work in support of Diagnostic Radiology under the direct supervision of a physician. Position is that of a radiologic technologist operating the super conductive Magnetic Resonance Imager (MRI), a highly complex computerized imaging device which employs the use of strong magnetic fields and radio waves to acquire images.

This specialty modality requires additional knowledge of super conduction magnets, the physics of superconducting magnets, and how they relate to the human anatomy in medical imaging. The technologist must be educated in the safety factors governing a magnetic environment that patients, visitors, and equipment enter into. The practitioner must have specific specialized knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and how it relates to the soft tissues and vessels of the human body. The technologist must also have a specialized knowledge in the radiofrequency surface coils required for each specific anatomical area to be imaged. The technologist requires knowledge of image acquisition in Computerized/Digital Radiography (CR/DR) and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS). This subspecialty requires advanced ARRT certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR).

Duties include but are not limited to:

• The incumbent serves as an operator of a super conductive magnetic resource unit. The operator will be developing new techniques, defining optimal protocols, and devising alternatice ways to visualize pathology within the patient. Interaction with physician, physicists, computer programmers, and biomed engineers will be normal occurrences of the daily duties of the operator.
• The incumbent provides patient care, which is appropriate to the cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and/or geriatric patient. Positions patient within the examiner unit (MRI), monitors patient during all phases of the examination, and removes patient from the influence of the magnetic field upon completion of the data acquisition.
• Coordinates the radiologist, MRSO and physicist to determine the most ideal parameters to the pulse the magnet for each individualized patient examination. Programs technical factors by Interrogating computer console and responding with inputs that will result in the parameters of pulse form, pulse sequence, slice profile, ect. Monitors the examination by checking Computations, performances, and results of the selected parameters to obtain the best diagnostic computer-generated data and images.
• Assists manufacturer representatives and biomedical engineers in the calibration and troubleshooting of malfunctions associated with the MRI unit. Establishes and monitors quality control programs. Maintains examination log, computer data and technical parameters on each examination.
• MEDVAMC is a teaching institute which requires the technologist to assist/train radiologist, and other technologist/technicians, students from affiliated institutions, and other health care professionals in PACS. Maintains supplies required for all MRI examinations. Maintains records on all patients and examination performed and contrast used by sending all completed exams to VISTA and Carestream PACs for permanent storage.
• PERFORMS ADVANCED LEVEL ASPECTS OF MRI IMAGING, such as MR Breast, MR Cardiac, and MR Functional Neuro studies utilizing specialized sequences to visualize the anatomy and pathology necessary for diagnosis.

Duties may include but are not limited to:-

The Cardiac Catheterization/Electrophysiology Laboratory (CCL) Registered Nurse (RN) executes position responsibilities that demonstrate expert leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex procedural care. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of patient care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction. Collaborates in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of policies, procedures, and/or guidelines. The CCL RN delivers and manages the care of patients undergoing therapeutic and diagnostic cardiology procedures including both inpatients and outpatients. Assesses the patients physical and mental status prior to procedures, educates on procedural and pre/post-procedural care, and documents responses to interventions, findings, and reports any changes. Partners with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team to promote effective and safe transitions across the health care continuum, including the Veteran's goals of care.
The CCL RN provides peers with formal or informal constructive feedback for improvement. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the development of health care professionals. Evaluates outcomes of evidence-based decisions and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations. Responsible for the documented outcomes at the program or service level. The CCL RN may function in several roles to include, pre-procedure assessments, post procedural recovery, and assisting physicians during procedures. • Conducting individual and group psychotherapy through telehealth, face-to-face, and/or telephone appointments for Veterans assigned a patient record flag for high risk of suicide.
• Maintaining tracking lists of veterans assigned a patient record flag for high risk of suicide to ensure timely follow-up appointments are made as specified by National and STVCHS policies.
• Provide crisis intervention, suicide risk assessment, and safety planning for all Veterans as needed.
• Coordinate with mental health providers, other treatment staff, and program managers through ongoing communication to ensure necessary components in the veteran's care plan address ongoing assessment of suicide risk, review of safety plans, etc. Ensures the required frequency of mental health appointments are in place for Veterans assigned a patient record flag for high risk of suicide through such ongoing communication.
• Completes Behavioral Health Autopsy Reports, Family Interview Tool - Contact forms, Issue Briefs, and Heads Up Memoranda as required.
• Following completed suicides, provides postvention services to both surviving family members and VA staff involved in the affected Veteran's care.
• Participation in and provision of expertise during individual Root Cause Analysis teams as assigned.
• Assure all Veterans assigned a patient record flag for high risk of suicide are followed properly by appropriate providers through the duration of flag assignment.
• Follow-up with patients and providers when a veteran assigned a patient record flag fails to report to a mental health appointment in order to address barriers to care, facilitate rescheduling, and ensure patient is safe.
• If the safety of a Veteran cannot be established, or it is determined the Veteran is at imminent risk for self-harm, the SPC initiates a health-and-welfare check or emergency response request as appropriate to the situation, including but not limited to, contacting the Veteran's identified emergency contact and/or 911.
• Maintain awareness of treatment options for those assigned a patient record flag for high risk of suicide and make recommendations to the Veteran's providers regarding such options.
• Obtain relevant HIPPA clearances to allow transmittal of facility data on suicide attempts and individuals at risk to VISN and National authorities for trending and quality assurance purposes; and transmitting the data following cyber security requirements as applicable for this sensitive data.
• Assure all Veterans assigned a patient record flag are aware of 24-hour resource numbers to call and other ways to obtain assistance should a suicidal crisis develop.
• Assure compliance with Joint Commission and other accrediting body standards related to suicide prevention.
