Supporting the nursing staff, clinicians, and service users within the Outpatients services on a daily basis is a key aspect of the role. This includes meeting and greeting patients and service users during clinic times, ensuring clear and effective communication. Managing clinic activity promptly and keeping patients informed about their care is essential for smooth operations.
The role also involves several administrative tasks, such as utilising basic computer programs and managing appointment lists. Ensuring the accuracy of paperwork and information recording is crucial. Clinical duties include performing and recording patient observations and conducting procedures such as ECGs, clinical observations, urinalysis, pregnancy testing, uroflowmetry, trials without catheter, bladder scans, and phlebotomy services. Additionally, assisting the Registered Nurse in the Minor Operations Clinic is part of the responsibilities.
Maintaining the cleanliness of the department and identifying and reporting any health and safety concerns are important for ensuring a safe and hygienic environment. Furthermore, maintaining a link role within the department and sharing best practices and guidance contribute to continuous professional development and improvement of services.
