The Journalism Program at Brandeis University seeks an instructor for JOUR 104a: Political Packaging, [4 credits] course in Fall 2024. The class will meet in person on the Waltham campus on Mondays, from 2:30 - 5:20 p.m.

The course examines the history of political marketing, image making in presidential campaigns, the relationship between news and ads, and the growth of public-policy advertising by special-interest groups to influence legislation. 

Candidates with at least a Bachelor’s degree; teaching experience on the university level; meaningful and innovative journalistic experience covering national political campaigns will be given preference. About the Opportunity

The Admissions Communications Team is a hybrid marketing and communications team which blends traditional and digital marketing efforts with a strategic focus on communications and emphasis on operations. The team is made up of experts in skill areas such as: admissions, data and operations, marketing, communications, analytics, and strategy. We are an agile and flexible team that aims to enable better storytelling by stronger reporting and strategic analysis of our marketing and communications efforts.

Our email program is innovative, complex, and comprehensive. It is the main channel with which we communicate to our audiences and, as such, this role is crucial in both the day-to-day work, as well as planning our long-term email strategy.

Reporting into the Sr. Associate Director of Undergraduate Communications Operations, this role is tasked with:

• Supporting the email operations for the Undergraduate Admissions Communications team in Slate
• Supporting Campaign Managers on their email campaigns in Slate, including supporting new multi-channel initiatives and retiring old ones
• Managing complex email data and queries, such as building audience lists that drive automation and transform content into a personalized campaign. Audience segmentation management is critical.
• Reporting and analyzing email data
• Oversight of email template functionality in alignment with strategic and operational goals.
• Managing day-to-day responsibilities such as ensuring campaigns are prepared in advance and firing post-launch, data and processes are reviewed, and colleagues are supported in their Slate-based efforts.

• Training the team and campus colleagues on the email system; supporting and maintaining training resources.
• Implementing and maintaining scalable naming conventions and organizational systems for high-volume work.

Working closely with the Sr. Associate Director of Undergraduate Communications Operations, this position is a tactical role, responsible for executing against the complex email operations strategy while developing and maintaining operational components for campaign managers. The Sr. Assistant Director of Communications Operations will own pieces of the email operations process and will contribute to evolving the strategy. 

This role is also responsible for documentation, template support, data checks and management, as well as maintenance of email systems in the division, collaborating closely with colleagues across Enrollment Management.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate has technical experience in enrollment marketing, specifically working with email operations.

At the Fir Acres Writing Workshop, sixty high school students from across the country come together for two weeks to write and join a community of writers on the beautiful, wooded campus of Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. In daily Workshops, participants study great writing and produce their own under the guidance of thoughtful, published faculty. At night, participants gather to socialize, meet and hear from distinguished visiting writers, and work on their own poetry, fiction, and creative prose. Our mission is to provide a high-caliber, pre-collegiate, creative educational experience to bright, inventive, and passionate high school students. Our program appeals to young writers and artistic students who are drawn to the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and the fun, hip mystique of Portland.

The Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information is looking for a Research Assistant/Research Associate/Research Fellow who is interested in examining the use of digital health technologies (health apps, wearables, exergames, VR/AR) to improve older adults’ physical health and mental well-being.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with highly acclaimed scholars from NTU, Singapore ETH Centre, and ETH Zurich and contribute to the development of a digital health tech ecosystem for older adults in Singapore.

Responsibilities

The Senior Assistant Manager, Media Relations is to source newsworthy and impactful stories across the University in the areas of education, research and innovation, with a focus on science communication, and to conceptualise and develop communciation plans that result in sustained and positive publicity for the University.

With a strong nose for news and the abilty to sift through information, you are to translate NTU’s research discoveries and innovations into positive stories in local and international media and the University’s various communication platforms.

A versatile and passionate communicator, you are to develop communication plans for media publicity projects that may include new corporate initiatives and announcements, launch of academic and research programmes, and various achievements by the University and the NTU community to engage the University’s stakeholders.

You will help develop and implement integrated communication strategies that highlight the University’s strengths in research and innovation, with a strong focus on sustainability research, that cut across the different communication functions of the Corporate Communications Office, to obtain sustained and favourable publicity in local and international media.

We need someone creative who enjoys developing publicity worthy content and who has the analytical ability to sift through information and zoom in to find the gems and apply a sharp focus to get the job done ahead of time, and at the highest quality.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, or other applicable disciplines.

• 3 to 5 years’ experience in journalism is preferred, or experience in editorial writing or in a media relations role in a large organisation.

• Excellent news sense and experience of news and feature writing and editing, and ability to convey messages succinctly, responsibly, and accurately.

• An exemplary writer with exceptional editing, writing and storytelling skills, as well as editorial packaging abilities and the ability to use multimedia storytelling to advance stories.

• Demonstrated ability to tailor communications for a broad range of audiences and on both print and digital platforms.
