At Stile, we have a key mission – to help teach scientific literacy skills. Currently, over 1,000 schools, 1,500,000 students and 52,000 teachers around the world use Stile. From designing investigations to critically evaluating media statements, we want to equip our future citizens with the scientific literacy to confidently participate in public discourse around the ethics and social impacts of scientific issues.
Here at Stile, we create world-class resources for science teachers (whom we call superheroes because… they are). Our resources (think videos, lesson plans, questions, simulations, activities, and more!) spark excitement and curiosity in every student.
That's why we need your help! We're looking for creative science writers to join our team and help create kick-ass content! As a Science Curriculum Writer, you'll be responsible for distilling real-world scientific issues into accessible and engaging lessons for the classroom. We're passionate about giving students the best science education ever and we hope you are too. Ultimately, we're looking for people who love science and are awesome at communicating it to anyone.
You’ll be someone who lives and breathes science education. Sound interesting?
If so, please read below to find out more about what's in it for you. You can also read about the role's responsibilities in further detail.
If you'd like to apply, please send us your CV and a cover letter (no more than a page or two) explaining why you're going to smash this role out of the park. Include a paragraph on which Behaviours of an Effective Stile-ist most resonate with you or which you disagree with and why. Address your letter to Clare Feeney and send both documents to jointheteam@stileeducation.com.
Please note, if your application does not include a cover letter it will not be considered.

What’s in it for you:
- You'll be working on something that really matters. We're coaching students to become problem solvers and critical thinkers in partnership with teachers. The internet democratised information. With a strong command of science, we believe that tomorrow’s citizens and leaders have a fighting chance of sorting the misinformation from the facts.
- You'll join a fantastic 70-strong team of teachers, scientists, artists and engineers who genuinely care about and work towards improving scientific literacy amongst our young citizens. We hold ourselves and each other to a high standard and love what we do.
- Your own professional development – we're lifelong learners here at Stile. Alongside teaching you everything you need to know to succeed in this role, you’ll have the opportunity to attend internal and external PD.
- A Mac laptop and whatever other bits and pieces you need to be productive remotely.
How you'll spend your time
This role will vary from day to day. It will always be interesting but might include:
- Working side-by-side with our ‘dream team’ of other writers, teachers, simulation designers, illustrators, animators and editors to make the best science resource in the known universe.
- Finding novel ways to take the best aspects of the Australian and International science curricula and bring them together to create resource plans and unit plans that will excite teachers worldwide.
- Collaborating with our engineering team on awesome new platform features or interactive simulations that support student understanding and leave room for teachers to shine.
- Raving on about the latest and coolest science news with other “science nerds” in our communal kitchen at lunchtime.
- Visiting schools with our amazing account managers to hear about teachers’ and students’ experiences at the coal-face and road-test new units and resources.
A bit more about you
- You're creative. You find inventive solutions to problems.
- You're eager to learn. Super eager. You soak up feedback, incorporate it, and are constantly driven to be better. You can't help it.
- You love working in a fast-paced environment. We're dynamic; we move quickly.
- You're incredibly organised and can manage several projects at a time.
- You're smart and you love to get shit done. You can hit the ground running.
- You're constantly thinking about how you could do your job better and accept feedback willingly. But you also aren't afraid to defend something when you think it's right.
- You are knowledgeable about the curricula, either the Australian Curriculum or the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
- You're passionate about sharing your love of science with others. It doesn't matter if you're a writer, communicator or educator; what's most important is that you want to share your passion for science with hundreds of thousands of students across Australia and beyond.
- You have a strong science background – this is essential for success in this role. Having a specialisation in chemistry, physics or maths is advantageous.
- You can communicate complex scientific ideas clearly to a younger audience.
Hours and location
This is a full-time, permanent role with some flexible work hours. We really value collaboration and about three days in the work week are in person in the office but we also really value focus time and this can be done at home or in the office, whatever works for you! During onboarding we want you to get the best experience so the first 4-6 weeks are in person in the office. We're all about what you achieve, not the hours of the day that you achieve it. Our (awesome) office is located on Exhibition Street in Melbourne CBD.
