This position is located at VA Eastern Colorado Health Care | Veterans Affairs. Pharmacy technicians in this assignment serve as the lead ordering officer for pharmacy service, providing guidance to lower-level procurement ordering officers.

The duties include but are not limited to the following:

• Serves as a key resource advising others in their particular specialty area or section of the pharmacy (such as procurement, sterile compounding (USP compounding standards), controlled substances DEA, automation, clinical pharmacy, lead tech, contact center, etc.).
• Analyzes data for self-driven (independent) performance improvement projects, workload analysis and statistical reports.
• Solves problems and implementing corrective actions to maximize outcomes in their program area.
• Maintains special accreditations and prepare for national reviews/inspections (e.g., The Joint Commission, Inspector General, American Society of Health System Pharmacists®, controlled substance inspections).
• Develops training programs and material for orientation, competency development and educational needs for regulatory requirements within the specialized pharmacy program area.
• Required to know pharmaceutical and supply inventory requirements to ensure compliance with regulations and national/audit/inspections (e.g., financial regulations, The Joint Commission, Inspector General, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists®, DEA, USP 797/800, FDA 503A/B).
• Required to know clinical specifications, characteristics and ordering processes of a wide variety of soft prosthetics and supply items (e.g., catheters, colostomy, ileostomy and urostomy supply and associated products) that technicians procure to dispense to Veterans in the outpatient pharmacy setting.
• Manages specialized programs related to inventory including, but not limited to, specialty medications and supplies, All Hazards Emergency Cache Program, recalls, reverse distribution and pharmaceutical waste.

Work Schedule: An 8-hour tour between the hours of 6:30am and 4:30pm | Monday to Friday and occasional procurement coverage on weekends.

• The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.
• The duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Serve as a technical advisor on the application of the U.S. Warehouse Act and the interpretation of the provisions of contracts for the storage and handling of government-owned or loan commodities.
• Conduct in depth, technical reviews of warehouse examination reports for completeness and accuracy, and determine if prescribed examination procedures were followed.
• Monitor the progress of newly hired examiners.
• Serve as a technical liaison on information technology issues pertaining to the warehouse examination and inspection program.
• Provide oversight on the serious and complex examinations, involving alleged violations and illegalities.
• Verify that warehouse operator’s records and receipts meet requirements established by regulations, storage agreements, and/or contracts.
• Serve as the Division safety liaison. Identify and investigate safety issues and determine precautions and/or protections required for the safety of examiners.
• Assist supervisor in coordinating the work of other team examiners and provide technical direction as needed.
