Essex County Council are delighted to be working in partnership with Braintree District Council to recruit for the role of a Senior Building Control Surveyor.

Accountabilities
The purpose of this role is to process Building Regulation applications throughout the Braintree District and enforce Building Regulations meeting the Council's statutory obligations. Duties are inclusive but not limited to:
- Support Building Control Managers in developing the Council's Building Control Service to ensure high professional standards of service delivery and customer care.
- Manage a caseload of building control duties to agreed targets.
- Examine plans and conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with building regulations.
- Liaise with applicants, the public, construction professionals, and statutory bodies on building control matters.
- Provide advice to customers on regulatory compliance and handle demolitions and dangerous structures.
- Promote and market the Building Control Service locally and provide quotes and manage payments for services.
- Ensure adherence to safety policies, represent the Council at relevant committees, and support team development.
The Experience You Will Bring
Skillset: A member of either Chartered Association of Building Engineers (MCABE) or Royal Institute Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) Building and 5 years post qualification experience; or level five of the LABC Competency Framework. Have achieved Class 3 or 4 Competency with the Building Safety Regulator. Have a valid driving licence with access to a car for travel throughout the district.
Knowledge: Possess extensive knowledge of Building Control and associated issues (construction, regulations and legislation), excellent communication and IT skills, and the ability to work independently, support team development, and make informed decisions. Demonstrate a commitment to service improvement, flexibility, and effective influence and negotiation.
Experience: In completing technical tasks to a high standard and achieving targets; in decision making covering complex and varied Building Control issues; in dealing with dangerous structures and demolitions; in writing and presenting reports and letters on complex issues.
