What You Will Achieve
This opportunity plays an influential role as a key member of the Site Leadership Team in driving a proactive Environmental, Health and Safety culture enabling Pfizer’s Purpose; Breakthroughs that change patients’ lives. This role affords an unparalleled opportunity for the candidate to share the long-term site EHS strategy at a key manufacturing site working closely with site leaders to grow programs that deliver proactive improvements.
This role will work collaboratively with all functions within the site, establishing strategic direction for Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS)/Business Continuity Management (BCM) programs to ensure the world class production of medicines. This role will:
Build a strong EHS team and grow and develop the team.
Ensure site programs fully comply with EHS/BCM company policies and Global EHS standards. Regularly review and update site EHS/BCM programs.
Establish and maintain site Risk Register and implement risk reduction strategies and actions.
Establish mechanisms to ensure proactive EHS assessment of the impact of changes.
Oversee EHS operational duties including regulatory permitting and reporting.
Set and deliver on EHS metrics and commitments (internal and external).
Partner with all operations to proactively plan and execute EHS/BCM duties, requirements, risk mitigation, etc.
Oversee EHS input into capital projects throughout the lifecycle to ensure alignment with EHS strategic plans.
Deliver on the EHS budget.
As a member of the Site Leadership team participates in leadership events, lead change management initiatives across the site, support site messaging, be active on the production floor, establish relationships with all colleagues, and drive continuous improvement across the site in all areas.
How You Will Achieve It
Set strategic direction at the site and build a culture of EHS/BCM excellence.
Functions as member of the Site Leadership Team providing direction and leadership for the site.
Leads the EHS and BCM programs at the site to:
minimize impact of operations on the environment,
assure the health, and safety, of company employees, contractors, and visitors.
and to assure effective incident response, including Emergency Preparedness & Response and Investigation.
Ensures mechanisms are established to identify and manage EHS regulatory requirements that apply to site operations including preparation of impact assessments, permit applications, registrations, and certifications; preparation and review of routine and special reports; and oversight of routine inspections. Acts as the primary point of EHS contact for external / regulatory bodies.
Ensures implementation and maintenance of EHS/BCM management systems that meet contemporary external and Pfizer internal EHS standards and enhance and continuously improve the program at the site.
Establishes and maintains self-assessment systems that periodically evaluate the effectiveness of the site EHS/BCM management systems.
Partners with the site leadership in establishing short and long term EHS/BCM objectives for the site, to ensure safety and minimization of environmental footprint. Establishes site EHS/BCM metrics, drives action plans and regularly publishes status updates.
Collaboratively equips the site leadership team in establishing and maintaining an effective operating environment that facilitates EHS cultural growth.
Integrates EHS risk assessment within business operations thereby assuring all initiatives at the site are conducted in a safe manner and in full compliance with all applicable regulating bodies or Global EHS standards.
Manages the site EHS budget.
Ensures all EHS/BCM functions are adequately resourced and managed to maintain compliance with all applicable Company policies and government regulations and to meet contemporary standards.
Develops and enhances the EHS team through effective organizational design, selection, development, training, and performance management of all colleagues.
Ensures delivery of in-sourced and outsourced EHS services at the site, including selection and management of properly licensed waste firms.
Partners with Engineering to develop and drive Environmental Sustainability plans, including waste, water and Greenhouse Gas reduction roadmaps for the site.
Ensures effective processes are established to ensure EHS review of capital projects; such that risk reduction controls are included within the design and project execution.
Develops relationships with above site stakeholders including Global EHS, BCM, Global Colleague Wellness and EHS professionals within the Pfizer Community of Practice (COP), to ensure program alignment and leverage network resources.
Leads Crisis Management Team when events arise.
Qualifications
Must-have
Applicant must have 10 years of relevant experience; OR an Associate's degree with 8 years of experience; OR a Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of experience; OR a Master’s degree with more than 3 years of experience; OR a Ph.D. with 0-2 years of experience.
People Management experience.
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work across multiple countries and cultures.
Demonstrated working knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements and guidelines associated with biosafety.
Proficiency in MS Office including Project Management.
Good understanding of safety and environmental programs and key processes.
Nice-to-have
Experience in the Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry.
CSP, CIH, or other EHS-related professional certification.
Experience with Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing.
Experience in GMP environments.
Thorough knowledge of federal EHS regulations and guidelines; maintains that knowledge to stay contemporary.
Proven track record of safety and environmental accomplishments and the ability to successfully drive and manage change.
Extensive experience managing and implementing EHS/BCM programs.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent project management and problem-solving skills.
Candidate will demonstrate personal leadership, initiative, judgment, and accountability in day-to-day work activities in addition to exhibiting strong planning/organizational skills.
Ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously including individual contributor activities balanced with leading others.
Ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
Physical/Mental requirements
Colleague must be able to manage emergency situations in a stressful environment.
Able to use hearing, respiratory and eye protection is required.
Exposure to Aseptic operations, API operations, high hazard operations, construction environments.
Must be able to perform field observations which could involve walking or standing on uneven terrain, squatting, bending, twisting, turning, and reaching above shoulder height and work in various climates from extreme cold to heat.
May require walking, standing, and/or sitting for prolonged periods.
Must be able to walk or drive between site buildings/areas on the site.
Must not be allergic to penicillin as the site manufactures penicillin products.
Non-Standard Work Schedule, Travel or Environment Requirements
Standard work schedule, Monday – Friday, days; may require off-shift and weekend support to support operations, capital projects, and shutdowns.
Limited travel <10%.
Off-hours: on call.
Immediate reporting for defined events.
Work Location Assignment: On Premise.
Other job details
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $109,400.00 to $182,300.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 15.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
