This 48-bed unit is dedicated to ortho/neuro/trauma. Some specific diagnoses’ are total knee, total hip, spinal fusions, and fractured hips. We are Stroke and Trauma certified and complete additional education every three months to better care for this population of patients. Our multidisciplinary team includes RN’s, nurse techs, nursing assistants, unit secretaries, PT/OT, orthopedic care coordinator and case managers, Nurse to patient ration is 1:4-6 and Nurse Assistant ratio is 1:8-10.

Scope of work

The RN, under the ANA scope of practice utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. The RN provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures and recognizes the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes. The RN partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning plan of care and develops teaching strategies for patient/family; documents education and learning appropriately in health record.

GENERAL SUMMARY: 

Reporting directly to the Nutrition Services Supervisor, responsible for all aspects of patient meal ordering including receiving patient calls, inputting menu selections into department software, ensuring compliance to dietary restrictions and attention to patient specific needs and concerns. Generate reports related to patient meal service. Assemble and coordinate distribution of patient nourishments and tube feedings. Expedite delivery of supplies to other departments. GENERAL SUMMARY:

To work collaboratively with members of an interdisciplinary team in order to assist patients and families with complex psychosocial needs. These interventions may include, but are not exclusive to: alternate site coordination, discharge planning, addressing all forms of identified abuse/neglect, adoption, substance use disorders, assisting with end of life decisions, providing appropriate referral resources, bereavement support, adjustment counseling, facilitating guardianships and behavioral health concerns (including psychiatric transfers).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Conducts psychosocial assessments with patient and or family to assist with identified psychosocial needs or who may be identified to require an alternate site of care post discharge and executes a plan.

2. Communicates with alternate sites of care and/or community agencies in an effective and timely manner, to best address the patient’s needs.

3. Completes and documents the assessment and plan in the electronic medical record, accurately reflecting the patient’s current condition, situational factors, transition of care needs and psychosocial imperatives.

4. Provides consultation and resources to members of the healthcare team.

5. Responsible for maintaining relevant and current knowledge of community resources.

6. Participates or assists in department or hospital committees, projects etc., as assigned/requested.

7. Develops and maintains current knowledge of federal and state regulations as they pertain to role.

Inpatient psychiatric duties: (when exists)

Scope of work

Provides care to the patient according to the plan of care, unit routine and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services and appropriate documentation of services. Provides the services of an Observer for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation, either in person or via remote video monitoring, to maximize his/her safety. GENERAL SUMMARY:

This is a Full Time night shift position in the Processing Lab at the Royal Oak Campus.

Registration data entry, test order entry, processing of specimens received in various Labs. May have equipment maintenance and quality control duties. May handle hazardous chemicals. May perform some data entry, answering phones, inventory, and filing. Duties may include responsibilities specific to assigned department and may vary dependent on assigned site/department

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Performs patient registration per corporate guidelines and training and accurately orders tests requested by clients into laboratory computer systems.
• Communicates with healthcare personnel outside of department about reports, clarification of requests, other problems related to specimens, requests, and testing delays. May coordinate Phlebotomist activity at various times throughout the shift.

• Performs specimen processing according to the Lab Test Directory instructions. May set up some cultures, perform waive testing, and report test results.
• Performs specimen receipt and tracking in Beaker and distributes to the technical areas. Checks incomplete worklists to make sure no specimens are uncollected or lost. Retrieves incomplete work logs.

• Processes documents and materials (reports, slides and blocks) for internal and external customers. Retrieves/distributes material (slides, blocks and reports) from the slides/blocks storage and/or LIS. May prepare tumor board conference material.

• Prepares Send-out tests, including Newborn Screening to the Michigan Department of Community Health and to other department/laboratories within the health system. Centrifuges, aliquots specimens, processes paperwork, and documents in the Beaker.

• Performs document imaging in On Base as assigned and archive, retrieve samples for additional testing.

• Performs clerical functions to maintain required records, files, and reports pertinent to the functions of a lab. Chart review, statistical logs, filing slides, etc.

• Maintains office equipment including copiers, faxes, and printers. Process offsite document/material storage/retrieval requests.

• May maintain pathologists’ schedules and uses Microsoft Office for preparing documents.

• Performs inventory, orders and receives supplies, rotates stock.

• Any other duties as needed.

• Communicates with healthcare personnel outside of department about reports, clarification of requests, other problems related to specimens, requests, and testing delays. May coordinate Phlebotomist activity at various times throughout the shift.

• Performs specimen processing according to the Lab Test Directory instructions. May set up some cultures, perform waive testing, and report test results.
• Performs specimen receipt and tracking in Beaker and distributes to the technical areas. Checks incomplete worklists to make sure no specimens are uncollected or lost. Retrieves incomplete work logs.

• Processes documents and materials (reports, slides and blocks) for internal and external customers. Retrieves/distributes material (slides, blocks and reports) from the slides/blocks storage and/or LIS. May prepare tumor board conference material.

• Prepares Send-out tests, including Newborn Screening to the Michigan Department of Community Health and to other department/laboratories within the health system. Centrifuges, aliquots specimens, processes paperwork, and documents in the Beaker.

• Performs document imaging in On Base as assigned and archive, retrieve samples for additional testing.

• Performs clerical functions to maintain required records, files, and reports pertinent to the functions of a lab. Chart review, statistical logs, filing slides, etc.

• Maintains office equipment including copiers, faxes, and printers. Process offsite document/material storage/retrieval requests.

• May maintain pathologists’ schedules and uses Microsoft Office for preparing documents.

• Performs inventory, orders and receives supplies, rotates stock.

General Summary:

About the unit 

Big Rapids Emergency Department is a community-based hospital that is part of the Corewell Healthcare System. The Big Rapids ED is a certified Primary Stroke Center and Level IV Trauma Center.  There are 20 places to treat patients with minor to major medical and traumatic emergencies. Interdisciplinary team members collaborate closely to provide relationship-based care for our patients and their loved ones.
