We are looking for an experienced Business Manager to support Research & Development to support our post-award R&D Finance Team at Barts Health NHS Trust.

The post holder will be an experienced team leader, with substantial experience of managing staff, working with the JRMO R&D Finance Team to support and develop the workforce, with responsibility for the oversight and management of the operational aspects of research financial administration and the provision of a first-class service to our research community in the Trust, Queen Mary University of London (academic partner) and other research organisations.

The post holder line manages three Band 7 Accounts Managers and their teams and works closely with the senior leadership team in R&D to oversee the effective operation of Research & Development.

Barts Health R&D operations - taking ownership for managing the daily business of hospital and group based research functions, dealing with unplanned events that arise and acting as the 'executing agent' for resolving issues. The post holder is also a member of the senior leadership team across the Joint Research Management Office.

Finance - Managing the Finance leads to ensure the finance functions for R&D, with an income of £30m p.a are managed effectively, in line with the Trust’s SFIs.

Risk Management – managing the risk register relating to finance and business development for the R&D, ensuring that risks are updated on datix, are managed appropriately and escalated as required The post holder is also required to present the risk register for approval to the R&D SMT on a monthly basis.

Secretariat and Committee support – to provide secretariat and reports for R&D Finance working groups, Hospital and Trust Research Board, ensuring that all reports are submitted on time and that an action log and minutes are taken for each meeting, for sign off by the Chair.

Recruitment and Staffing- Ensuring that the appointment of core JRMO/R&D staff and research staff across the Trust is managed in line with agreed recruitment procedures and meets our policies for equality and inclusion.

Managing R&D’s staffing establishment to ensure that all new posts and vacancies are in line with budget and that R2Rs and e forms are raised in line with Trust policies and procedures.

Induction – taking overall responsibility for the local Induction of finance and business development staff in R&D, working with wider R&D leadership team to ensure consistency across all R&D staff, including providing coaching and advice to new staff as required.

Band 6 Research Nurse - Perioperative Medicine and Cardiovascular Surgery (1 year fixed term)

An exciting opportunity for a motivated and driven clinical research nurse has arisen to work within the adult cardiovascular surgery & perioperative medicine research group and the Barts BioResource based at the St. Bartholomew’s Hospital.

Our group offers a unique variety of research experiences and is a fantastic place to learn the
speciality. As part our routine day, we work in the Pre-Operative Assessment Units, Theatres, Recovery, Critical Care Units and Surgical wards. You will be closely involved with the staff and patients in all of these departments and more widely across the Hospital, supporting the Barts BioResource programme.

Your primary base will be at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital.

The successful applicant will be committed to evidence-based practice and will be involved in the day to day management of research studies and the Barts BioResource. This includes: patient recruitment, data collection, research protocol development, data quality assurance and liaison with the clinicians responsible for patient care. You will be expected to show initiative and autonomy in the running of the clinical trials. You will have experience in cardiothoracic surgeryand/or critical care, strong organisational and planning skills and be an effective communicator. Research experience is desirable but not essential. You will be a registered nurse and should be able to work both on your own initiative and as part of a team

The aim of this post is to support ongoing research in the interventional cardiology department focusing on regenerative medicine and interventional research, with a view to submitting an MD (Res)/PhD.



Barts Heart Centre is home to the merged cardiac units which were previously based at The London Chest Hospital, St. Bartholomew’s Hospital and The Heart Hospital. It is the heart attack centre for the region and also provides invasive and interventional cardiology services, structural cardiology, specialist cardiac imaging, electrophysiology services including device implants and ablation therapy for arrhythmia, grown up congenital heart disease, heart muscle disease and heart failure services. These posts therefore provide exposure to a wide variety of cardiology and medical conditions.

This role would suit a well organised person who has a desire to undertake a period of research training as part of their clinical training, ideally in the fields of cardiology or cardiac critical care. Some prior experience in research through an intercalated BSc or similar would be beneficial, as would experience / expertise in data management. Crucially the role requires an applicant who can communicate with a wide range of people and who can work independently.

The role of the Clinical Research Fellow is to work as part of a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, nurses and support staff, assisting and delivering a programme of research relating to commercial, NIHR portfolio and non NIHR studies.


To support the clinicians and nurses within the Paediatrics team and children’s clinical research facility in recruiting patients to commercial, NIHR portfolio studies and non-portfolio studies.


The post holder will also be part of the clinical team, providing a clinical service in Paeds A+E, wards, SCBU and OPD.

The duty of the post will be working with the research nurses in a
multidisciplinary team to recruit patients into research projects;


To undertake new research projects under the supervision of consultants.

To ensure that all research is undertaken according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP), as well as SOPs and trial specific protocols

Evaluate research study participants’ eligibility for the studies through coordination and interpretation of information obtained from the clinical service.

Record patient data, in accordance with the requirements of the East London Research Ethics Committee

The dermatology service within Barts Health NHS Trust offers a range of services aimed at people who are concerned about their dermatological well-being, and for people who are living with skin conditions.



The post holder will assist the Head of Specialty in the systematic provision of clinical research services to adults and children within the dermatology service within its catchment area that it serves. This will be providing services settings namely, the outpatient Service. The post holder will be required to travel to both Whipps Cross University Hospital and the Royal London Hospital.

All junior staff will have a responsibility towards the teaching of medical students and may be requested to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. You must appear on the GMC register.

The primary responsibility for this post holder is to take a leading role in engagement with patients and heart failure professionals & dissemination of the stem cell research. They will also lead in the running of a portfolio of cellular studies, initiate and manage different projects as well as take a
lead role and. within the department. The post holder will be based within the cardiology research department at the Barts Heart centre. You might be required to cover multiple sites within the trust as well travel to across the network for engagement and educational purposes.







You will be an RN with significant post registration experience with a strong critical care or cardiology background. You must demonstrate strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, be computer literate, flexible and be able to manage your own time effectively. Excellent time management and IT skills are essential to the role. Experience of formal and informal teaching and clinical research will be advantageous.

GCP and Research Governance Manager

Applications are invited from individuals with strong background and experience in Good Clinical Practice and MHRA regulated trials management to join the Joint Research Management Office (JRMO). The JRMO is a joint research and development office which manages clinical research on behalf of Barts Health NHS Trust and Queen Mary University London.

This is a very busy department and the GCP and Research Governance Manager is an integral role linking the teams in the JRMO with our researchers to ensure the Research Management and governance objectives of both organisations are met.

The post holder will provide expert advice and guidance to researchers in the set-up, oversight and management of MHRA regulated studies sponsored by the Trust and/or University from set up to close out. They will also have oversight of sponsors monitoring activities and line management responsibilities of the clinical trial monitors.

The successful applicant will have substantial experience of undertaking or managing health research, including managing MHRA regulated clinical trials with the NHS, academic institution, pharmaceutical company, or contract research organisation.

You must have expert knowledge of UK CTIMP, ATMP and Clinical investigation legislation and regulations and GCP requirements and research governance requirements. A working knowledge of research quality assurance systems and Sponsor oversight activities (including monitoring) are also essential.

The role includes a large amount of training delivery so the ability to prepare and deliver confidently and excellent communication skills are needed.

The post holder will support the Senior GCP and Compliance Manager within the GCP and Compliance team.

The post is full-time starting salary (NHS Band 7 subject to final AfC Job Matching outcome) will be in the range of £ (HR add in the range) per annum exclusive of London Allowance.

We are currently looking for a dynamic, motivated senior research manager to ensure the smooth running, progress and evolution of the Compassionate Stem Cell Unit and the regenerative medicine research programme at Barts Heart Centre (based in the department of interventional cardiology). The Compassionate Stem Cell Unit is the UK’s first and only stem cell treatment programme for heart failure patients. This is an exciting role managing a team and research programme at the forefront of regenerative medicine for cardiovascular disease.
As an autonomous practitioner, they will manage all aspects of the Compassionate Treatment Unit and Regenerative Medicine Research Programme. Other interventional research (i.e. devices) may be part of the role as required

The post holder will practice at an advanced level, capable of delivering all aspects of clinical trials (including design, set-up, database creation/ management, financial management and recruitment/delivery), research grant applications (e.g., costings) and research programme delivery (e.g., engagement with regulators and academic/clinical and industrial collaborators). The post holder will lead by example, providing expert clinical and research knowledge to the multi-professional team.

They must demonstrate strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, be computer literate, flexible and be able to manage their own time effectively in order to project manage the portfolio, Trust processes and Compassionate team activity. You must have had nursing experience at least Band 7 level or above for at least two years in research, and have had experience of delivering all aspects of clinical trials and the financial management of projects.

An exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Research Nurse to join the Children’s research team at Barts Health NHS Trust. The research that we conduct is focused on the holistic approach to patient care and significantly contributes to the future progress of healthcare for all. Working clinically with the team you will promote high standards of both patient care and research practice and contribute to the recruitment and retention of patients in clinical research studies.

The post holder’s primary role will be to contribute actively to the conduct, coordination, and delivery of clinical research studies at Barts Health NHS Trust. Working effectively with the immediate and broader multidisciplinary team and being responsible for ensuring that high standards of clinical care planning, delivery, safety, and patient satisfaction is to a very high standard, compliant with trust policy, study protocol requirements, local and national guidance, and legislation. The post holder will be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for patients and carers participating in trials. This will involve the recruitment, education and monitoring of children in studies and the collection and documentation of accurate data and be able to manage up to ten to twelve studies. The post holder will also require skills in phlebotomy and cannulation. You will work closely with your extended team, sponsors, R&D, investigators, and the study / clinical teams. You will undertake and complete studies on the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) portfolio in a reliable, timely and efficient fashion. You will work collaboratively with the wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT) in the management of your own caseload of children and carers in the clinical studies. The post holder will deliver the studies under the leadership of the Senior Research Nurses at the Royal London Hospital Children’s Clinical Research Facility.
