A Fire Effects Monitor (GS-04 Biological Science Technician) follows instructions and standardized procedures to collect and organize field data (e.g. vegetation, fuel and GIS). Ensures adequate quality control of data collected and performs routine and recurring testing of collected samples. Makes field observations of natural resource conditions. Provides results to higher-level specialists for analysis. Provides logistical support and area orientation for contract or cooperating scientists. Installs, operates, maintains, inventories, and calibrates resource management equipment. Orders replacement parts, new equipment, and supplies. Utilizes a variety of computer programs to compile, reduce, store, retrieve, and report data and other resource management information, including natural science research and long-term monitoring projects. Prepares a wide variety of recurring correspondence, internal reports, and other documents from information obtained from office staff, files and other sources and reviews and finalizes documents prepared by others.

A Fire Effects Monitor (GS-05 Biological Science Technician) establishes monitoring plots in a variety of vegetation/fuel types in accordance with established guidelines and directions. Monitors plots and makes field observation of resource conditions. May prepare fire behavior monitoring documentation on forms for prescribed burns. Identifies grasses, herbs, shrubs and trees to species (by knowledge or using a dichotomous key). Catalogs, labels and stores plant materials collected during the season. Prepares field maps and photographs from the ground (read topographic maps and locate predetermined points with GPS). Enters natural resource field data into a personal computer (or handheld electronic devices using customized software). May be required to operate light vehicles and 4X4s.

Avantor is looking for a Laboratory Technician, to join our laboratory-based team in Macclesfield, on a full-time, permanent basis.

The Laboratory Technician role is an entry level position, which underpins the laboratory support function. This role delivers the key lab support services to our customers, which allows them to focus on the science and progress their projects.

The role will typically include stock and waste management, equipment support services and standard laboratory tasks aligned to those laboratories.

Site location: Charter Way, Silk Road Business Park, Macclesfield, Cheshire, SK10 2NA

Working hours: Monday to Friday, from 7:00am to 3:00pm

The team

You will be part of a dynamic laboratory support team, working collaboratively in a rewarding environment. What we’re looking for?

• Education: A-levels, preferably in a scientific subject
• Previous experience working in a customer-facing environment is highly desirable. This can be in hospitality, retail, or general warehouse
• Experience of working in a laboratory environment and Knowledge of SHE requirements in a laboratory environment is desirable but not essential
• Collaboration Tool: Good IT skills required (including Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook)

Avantor has an excellent opportunity for Senior Laboratory Technician, to join our site in Macclesfield. Your work location is one of our major customer's site at Silk Road Business Park (SK10 2NA).

This role will be a full-time, permanent position. Daily you will be working with Scientist and supporting them with kanban and stock management, making reagents, document completion and glassware and plastic collection and washing.

80% of your time, will be supporting laboratory operations and rest of the time will be desk-based completing vital documentation.

The team

You will join Quality Assurance Department, a team of 10 Senior Laboratory Technicians, and have a strong sense of team work and supporting each other. They work independently with full hands-on support from their manager when it's needed.

Working hours: Monday to Friday from 7:00am/8:00am - 3:00pm/4:00pm

What we’re looking for

• Experience: We don't require any science degree or qualification, but we would like you to have some experience in laboratory work and be aware of Good Manufacture Practise standards. We are looking for a team member, who will stay with us long-term and has a curiosity about science. Customer Service experience is preferable.

How you will thrive and create an impact

• Proactively delivering the operational laboratory support handling workload and service levels as required - stock management, helping with deliveries, laboratory housekeeping activities

• Acting as Point of Contact for customers, actively engaging with them on a regular basis to understand their business requirements and providing with updates

• Assisting with Kanban management, reference standard management or archiving as required

• Maintaining records for equipment servicing and routine preparation to GMP regulations

• Data entry and analysis using MS Office, including Excel
