These positions are duty stationed at Dry Tortugas National Park (DRTO) which is located 70 miles west of Key West, Florida, in the southeastern Gulf of Mexico. The park is 101 square miles of mostly ocean with a sub-tropical coral reef system. There are currently 7 small keys that make up less than 0.2% of the park area. These keys are home to a variety of nesting seabirds including: sooty terns, brown noddys, magnificent frigatebirds, and masked boobies. The keys are also hosts for several hundred loggerhead and green sea turtle nests each year. The marine part of the park consists of a large variety of coral reefs, which have been severely impacted by warm ocean temperatures and coral diseases over the past several years. The Natural Resources program will be focused on monitoring how the loss of coral effects the ecosystem and whether restoration projects can help preserve and enhance the ecosystem and the populations that rely on it.

Work will include a mixture of terrestrial and marine focused duties. Which will include conducting monitoring studies for seabirds and sea turtles, invasive species management, marine surveys (coral, fish, benthic invertebrates, seagrass, etc...), and restoration projects. Work priorities can shift rapidly due to the remote nature of the park, weather patterns, and logistical difficulties, so being flexible is vital to these positions.

While on duty employees typically stay at Garden Key, a remote 16-acre island with few services. The island does have employee housing, a small recreation room, and limited Starlink internet. Employee housing at Garden Key is in small or shared apartments with other employees. Housing units have running water, air-conditioning, and small kitchens. There are no grocery stores, banks, etc... available on the island. Employees must travel to Key West to access most services. Creating a work-life balance while living at a worksite for up to two weeks, with limited to no services can be challenging. Available recreational activities include: snorkeling, diving, paddleboarding, fishing, sailing, birding, and other outdoor pursuits.

Works on both animals and cell culture based models using a variety of cellular physiology and molecular biology methods including FACS, ELISA, immunoblotting, microscopy, RT-PCR, and gene expression arrays.

We are looking for a highly motivated nurse, interested in helping to improve patient treatment outcomes for patients affected by lymphoma. Research nursing is an exciting and developing role, supported through the R&I division with a good education and development package in place to ensure that staff reach their potential.

This post presents an excellent opportunity to join the establishing and Lymphoma Research team with a varied portfolio of early and late clinical trials.

Central to this role is the responsibility of assessing and managing the care pathways including the delivery of all specified treatments for participants in research within a multidisciplinary team. Key responsibilities of the post include the co-ordination of the trial protocols and support for patient affected by lymphoma.

A background in oncology, flexibility in working, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Experience in clinical research and/or haematological malignancies would be desirable.

A 15-month fixed term full time Postdoctoral Research Association (PDRA) position is available in the Department of Geography at Durham University. The successful candidate will join the project 'Greenland Ice Sheet and sea-level response under climate change from AD 1600 to 2100'. The project is led at Durham by Professor Sarah Woodroffe and is funded by the UK Natural Environment Research Council.

As a PDRA on this project, the successful applicant will be required to develop relative sea-level reconstructions over the past few hundred years from salt-marshes in Greenland using diatoms as the main proxy, alongside XRF and other stratigraphic methods. These reconstructions will be compared to relative sea-level predictions from new Greenland-wide models of ice sheet change developed by collaborators on the project from Lincoln and Northumbria Universities. The main responsibilities will be to develop new modern and fossil diatom datasets from Greenland saltmarshes and statistical and chronological models that allow quantitative relative sea-level reconstructions from sites around the west coast of Greenland. A further responsibility will be to write applications for radiocarbon dating support, to prepare data, figures and text for publication and to communicate the interim and final findings of the research at collaborator workshops and international science meetings.

This is a great opportunity to work as part of a friendly team on a cutting-edge project. The PDRA will have access to outstanding resources including laboratory and microscope facilities and travel funding for conferences and collaboration.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in developing relative sea-level reconstructions using diatom data and application of quantitative methods of RSL reconstruction. Previous experience working in salt-marshes would be an advantage.

This post presents an opportunity to join an established research team with a varied portfolio of clinical trials as a Senior Clinical Research Nurse (sCRN). The Lung cancer research team is responsible for a varied portfolio of academic and commercial clinical trials.

Key responsibilities of the post include supporting the coordination of the patient’s pathway through an agreed portfolio of clinical trials across Lung. Excellent communications skills in all forms are required for this role for difficult clinical conversations with patients and their families. Experience of line management and excellent leadership skills are required.

• Oversee the process for obtaining NHS permissions (R&D approval) for clinical trials within team. As project lead, ensures permissions are in place prior to any patient recruitment.
• Undertake feasibility and risk assessments of clinical trial protocols in conjunction with Team Leader, Principal Investigator and Senior Clinical Trials Co-Ordinator
• Ensure all clinical trial activities are recorded in appropriate systems in a timely manner.
• Awareness of trial specific, regional, and national targets.
• Initiate new recruitment strategies for recruiting patients to clinical trials including engagement with the research network.
• In conjunction with Team Leader lead on the delegation of all trial related activities to research team members (clinical and administrative) and ensure compliance with SOPs and ICH/GCP.
• Work with team leader and sponsor companies in the preparation and negotiation of financial contracts for individual trials.
• Arrange and facilitate clinical trial related meetings.
• In conjunction with Team Leader, oversee appropriate financial remunerations for clinical trial activity



Clinical Service and Professional Responsibilities
• Assimilation of highly complex information relating to clinical trials and communication to patients at a level appropriate to their understanding. Ensure highly sensitive information is communicated to patients, relatives, and careers regarding prognosis
• Responsible for the development, implementation, and review of specialist care pathways in conjunction with appropriate personnel.
• Demonstration of expert knowledge in specialist area to maintain clinical excellence.
• Set up processes/patient pathways in conjunction with appropriate personnel from specialist research areas to promote a cost-effective timely service for individual protocols (shared care pathways, specialist clinics, etc.).
• Support Team Leader in delivering divisional and trust strategic objectives including performance indicators and metrics.
• Escalation of governance issues impacting on delivery of job purpose.
• To act as a primary contact point for the clinical trial patients and act as adviser to other health care professionals.
• Responsibility for maintenance and development of professional knowledge and practice by attending mandatory and specialist training (e.g., GCP) in accordance with local policy
• Ensuring care delivery standards in accordance with trial protocol, local policy, NMC Code of Practice Conduct and current best practice
• Development and maintenance of a high-quality service by:
1. Overseeing the safe administration of all licensed and unlicensed medicinal products within the context of a clinical trial.
2. Overseeing assessment and evaluation of treatment toxicities and initiation of appropriate intervention.
3. Contribute to development of specialist Standard Operating Procedures and guidelines
• Provide education and support for non-research staff in the delivery of protocol driven treatment for all patients.
• Participate in monitoring and audit activities within research team
• To carry out non-medical prescribing within scope of professional practice and in accordance with local policies and procedures and national legislation (optional and depending on clinical service needs).



Personal Education, Training and Development
• Maintain professional development whilst evaluating own specialist knowledge and practice through a process of appraisal and personal development planning.
• Promote the role of the clinical research nurse as an integral part of the healthcare system.
• Increase and maintain awareness of current advances in cancer treatments, research and nursing practice thereby maintaining the highest standard of care for patients with cancer and implementing evidence-based care by continuing professional development.

• Obtain clinical supervision as appropriate.
• To keep up to date with departmental, Trust, UK and EU developments for the management of clinical research ensuring timely, effective implementation of changes.

Staff Management and Development
• In conjunction with the team leader, provide the induction, continued supervision and management of the research teams.
• In conjunction with the team leader, be responsible for ensuring all members of the research nurse team undergo regular appraisal and support appropriate training and development opportunities in line with role requirements.
• Lead on the development of specialist study days within own research team
• Provide specialist education and training in relation to clinical trials to all key stakeholders.
• Disseminate information by attendance and /or presentations at local, national and international conferences/meetings

The Melanoma disease team is a small team of nurses and consultants with clinical trial coordination and project management support. The portfolio is driven to deliver treatment opportunities to as many patients with Melanoma at The Christie as possible.

of Medical Oncology. This position is suitable for individuals who wish to gain specialist training and
experience in the care of patients with melanoma, and further training in early phase clinical trials.
The Melanoma Team is a multi-disciplinary team of surgeons, oncologists and research staff. There
are 4 plastic surgeons, 2 clinical oncologists, 4 medical oncologists and a large clinical research team.
The oncology team covers a population of > 3.5 million and sees approximately 2250 new patients a
year with high risk primary or advanced disease. The team is a major contributor to clinical research
at a national and international level. We work closely with colleagues in the CRUK Manchester
Institute, one of 3 CRUK Super Centres in the UK, and with colleagues at the University of
Manchester (, Dr Adam Hurlstone). Manchester Cancer Research Centre has prioritised melanoma
as one of six areas in which it will be internationally leading in research.
The post will offer experience in cutting edge research in personalised medicine and
immunotherapy, Early Phase trials methodology and conduct, and experience in managing complex
cases in an academic tertiary care centre with an international reputation. In addition, there are
ongoing projects inn toxicity management, late effects and on the use of big data and interrogation
of national data-sets. It is expected the successful applicant will publish a number of papers as a
result of their attachment, and there will be an opportunity to develop novel research projects.


The role will be responsible for:

1. Main Duties: To work as a Clinical Fellow at the Christie under the supervision of Professor Paul Lorigan, Dr Avinash Gupta, Dr Patricio Serra and Dr Rebecca Lee. This will involve close liaison with other members of the multidisciplinary team in particular surgeons, research nurses and data managers. A major role of the post will be to implement evidence based best practice for patients who are being treated on clinical trials at the Christie and to develop and support associated clinical research.
2. Clinical Management: to work closely with and support the team in the management of patients with melanoma. An important role of the Clinical Fellow will be to have direct involvement in the day-to-day clinical management of patients under the supervision of the consultant whether or not they are being managed within the confines of a clinical trial, and to attend relevant MDTs, radiology and educational meetings.


3. Clinics: the Clinical Fellow will be required to support research and NHS clinics, typically 4
clinics per week: examples - Monday am (treatment and research), Monday pm (new and
follow-up), Wednesday pm (new, FU and treatments), Thursday (new). .
4. Protocols: the post holder will be expected to revise and develop evidence based protocols
for patients. He/she will be expected to undertake the administrative duties associated with
the care of these patients.
5. Professional Development: He/she will maintain a level of continuing professional
development consistent with the recommendations of the Royal College of Physicians.
Appropriate arrangements for study leave will be made in conjunction with colleagues. A
fund, administered by the Director of Service for the support of study leave exists within the
Trust. The post holder will also be required to undergo an appraisal.
6. Junior Doctor Training: the post holder will be expected to contribute actively to the training
of ST1 & 2s in medical oncology and of medical students form the University of Manchester
The post holder will also be expected to help in the training of nursing and multidisciplinary
staff in both inpatient and outpatient departments.
7. Clinical Governance: the post holder will be expected to participate in all relevant aspects of
clinical governance, including maintaining up to date protocols, guidelines and clinical audit,
under the supervision of the other consultants in the unit.
8. Audit: the appointee will play a full role in clinical audit as a member of the Christie Hospital
Medical Staff.
9. Research: there are excellent opportunities for research within the department. The
appointee will be encouraged to contribute to current research projects within the unit
and/or set up new projects in consultation with supervisors. Successful candidates will be
encouraged to submit research findings for presentation at national or international
meetings and will be supported to attend these.
