We seek a suitable candidate to fulfil the role of Science Technician. The Science department at SMCC has a purpose-built preparation room serving six laboratories. The technician would be required to support the delivery of Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics to GCSE level.
The role involves taking responsibility for the practical resourcing for KS3 and GCSE classes under the direction of the teaching staff. In-class support of students during experiments would be part of this role. The ability to be proactive in the preparation of planned experiments and reactive to situations that may arise such as spillages or broken equipment is vital. A willingness to be trained as a First Aider is also important.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic with good communication skills. A knowledge of and passion for science would be highly desirable. Previous experience and/or a willingness to undergo training is essential. Good IT skills including in the use of spreadsheets, word processing, databases and others software would be advantageous. The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to support the work of Dr. Charles Downing and his theoretical research group in quantum optics, nanophotonics and condensed matter. This Royal Society funded post is available for around 8 months with a start date from November 2024 (at the earliest) to January 2025 (at the very latest). The end date cannot be later than the end of August 2025 due to the funding ending at that point.

The successful applicant will conduct high quality research in theoretical quantum optics and related areas. They will work on current issues interesting the research group, including quantum batteries, non-Hermitian quantum physics and quantum topology.

About you
The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Faculty of Health and Life Sciences



The Faculty wishes to recruit two Postdoctoral Research Associates to support the work of Dr Craig Beall and Dr Tom Piers. These externally funded posts are available from 1st October 2024 on a fixed-term basis of initially one year, with a second year of funding to be released after a satisfactory progress report at nine months.



The successful applicants will perform laboratory-based research using cell culture models to investigate cell therapies for Type 1 Diabetes. Candidates with prior experience in diabetes research or neuroscience/stem cell biology are encouraged to apply but candidates with relevant experience from other disciplines are also encouraged to apply. We are also recruiting a graduate research assistant in this round (advert reference P96792), to support the project and the work of the two postdoctoral researchers.



The post will include performing 2D and 3D tissue culture using human cell models. There will also be work using organoid and organ-on-a-chip to develop advanced human-relevant in vitro models.



A significant component of work will require experience of cell biology including imaging studies, ELISAs and multiplexing, cell signalling and cell-to-cell communication.



Some intercampus travel may be required.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals, reports and applications to external bodies.



Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will be able to work to agreed timelines and milestones and maintain excellent written records and excellent interpersonal skills to coordinate activities with the other team members directly involved in this project.

What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking to appoint an ambitious, talented and inspiring classroom practitioner to teach Maths across all ability groups in KS3 and KS4. Further information is contained within the Candidate Pack available on our website.

This is a permanent post, suitable for an experienced teacher or a highly motivated Early Careers Teacher wishing to join a team of specialists who ensure a high standard of teaching, learning and achievement. We are looking for candidates with excellent subject knowledge and the ability to inspire and motivate our ambitious and hardworking pupils. The post is offered from January 2025.

Following a recent review of our structure there is also the opportunity to include the role of Deputy Head of Upper School which attracts a TLR2a allowance and appropriate management allocation.

The main accountabilities of the Deputy Head of Upper School will be to work with the Head of Upper School to provide effective leadership, support, and management to build and maintain an effective year group team of tutors and add value to the academic progress that pupils make. We recognise that good pastoral support is essential to ensure our pupils achieve the best experience, leaving with good qualifications and high levels of literacy and numeracy.
