Newly-hired mathematicians and mathematical statisticians begin their careers in the Mathematics Development Program (MDP). The goal of the three-year MDP is to provide on-the-job training in the broad range of mathematical and statistical sciences at NSA. This is primarily accomplished through 6-month tours in NSA offices of the MDP participant's choosing. Mentorship is provided for each tour and participants work on real mission problems.

MDP members also study cryptologic mathematics, statistical data mining, and related subjects in courses taught by Agency experts. Participants are required to develop skills in programming and using computational resources to solve mission problems. Various short-term and long-term travel opportunities exist for interested participants but are not required. MDP members are able to take advantage of other professional development opportunities available at NSA as well. This includes continuing education opportunities and optional Agency courses in everything from professional communication to goal setting to machine learning. Career mentorship and participation in professional networks such as WIMS (Women in the Mathematical Sciences) are strongly supported. Through the MDP, participants are rooted in the Agency community of mathematicians and mathematical statisticians. Also they are given the opportunity to explore a wide variety of problem sets. Digital Twin of Eye is a Modeling and Simulation (M&S) driven research and development project, specifically in the area of computational human eye model development to support R&D device / therapy development and interaction with human eye.

Key Responsibilities:

• Drive our vision to develop digital twin of eye, a set of physically realistic multi-physics simulation models of human eye, that will enable accurate modeling of key aspects of ocular physiology pertaining to the interaction of the human eye with Alcon's products and systems.

• Establish future strategy and direction for digital twin of eye modeling project in alignment with R&D’s strategic plans within multiple technology platforms.

• As an expert in computational modeling and simulation (FEA and CFD) drive innovation and ensure high quality decision making through effective application of Modeling and Simulation for the eye model

In this role, a typical day will include:

• Responsible for executing device engineering activities for ocular health related new products.
• Support research & development in the area of novel ophthalmic devices (including novel packaging/ delivery devices)
• Interact with external consultant(s) and contractors to develop technology and conduct and/or lead necessary research leading to device commercialization.
• Generate and analyze data from laboratory and simulation and provide technical guidance.
• Provide device technical support and be accountable for all device engineering related deliverables within the assigned projects’ activities, according to regulatory and mandatory industry performance standards.
• Design, generate, analyze, and report data from laboratory and simulation and provide technical guidance in support of global product development and registration including any testing required to support global registration.
• Hands-on experience in design and execution of experiments.
• Possess a comprehensive knowledge of device development, material properties, fluid mechanics, and critical quality attributes that can impact the performance of the products.
• Support and lead the device related regulatory document preparation for registration dossiers and brand related medical information, communication, publications (510(k), CE Mark, Japan, CTD’s, Envisa’s, NDA, IND, etc) Ensuring timely responses to Health Authorities questions for support of regulatory dossiers.
• Support and lead the device(s) related document preparation for Investigator Brochures (IB) in support of clinical studies.
• Support existing device and ophthalmic packaging by addressing select product support requests and addressing questions on existing products.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:

• Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school+15 yrs; Assoc.+11 yrs; M.S.+4 yrs; PhD+3 yrs)
• The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in Medical Device Design and Development preferred.
• Proficiency in CAD. SolidWorks or Creo preferred.

• Ability to work under minimum oversight to identify and prioritize work activities as necessary to achieve project goals within set timelines.
• Ability to produce high quality work output capable of meeting project needs, even when operating under tight timelines.
• Successfully provide design leadership to new ophthalmic product development projects.
• Work efficiently and productively with other team members and external partners.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and lead delivery of raw materials and services to meet R&D project goals and objectives.
• Actively works to support the development of new technologies and supplier capabilities.
• Lead new supplier introduction by populating address, bank details, contact info, tax info, goods or services offered, risk assessment into SAP Ariba.
• Develop, monitor, and report supplier performance with KPI's including benchmarking with other companies/industries.
• Drive root cause investigation of supplier issues through the use of corrective and preventative action (CAPA).
• Provide support for invoice queries.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities to acquire the best value for Alcon.
• Be proficient at oral / written communication in order to optimally explain sophisticated ideas and approaches to a wide audience.
• May participate as an active member of project core teams to develop and deliver upon project schedules.
• Maintains accurate inventory management, material tracking.
• Knowledge of ISO, FDA, MDD and regulations applicable to the design and development of Interocular devices.

You will be trusted to work on the integration, analysis, and interpretation of safety information from clinical development through post-approval lifecycle. • Responsible for key internal Alcon safety documents. Develop and update these documents with new or changes in product safety information. Ensure accurate and high quality outputs.
• Responsible for overall signal detection, monitoring, evaluation, and appropriate management of safety information from relevant line functions, clinical studies, post-marketing experience, literature, and other sources. Lead the Safety Management Team (SMT).
• Responsible for post-market surveillance plans, periodic safety updates, product labelling and related documents, including safety information to support product claims.
• Responsible for health hazard assessments and responses to inquiries from health authorities, health care professionals, and legal on safety issues. Prepare safety data for health authority review boards.
• Provide medical and scientific guidance to local affiliates on safety issues.

• Provide integrated safety input into all regulatory documents required during active product development.

• Provide guidance on safety topics, initiate, and maintain productive cross-functional collaborations internally with R&D colleagues, business partners, and externally.
• Ensure support for business development and licensing activities, regulatory inspections/audits, and market action activities.

• Provide resource coverage and support project activities across therapeutic areas to ensure timely safety deliverables, when needed.
• May function as a deputy for Head, Medical Safety and Compliance for assigned activities.
