• Develop and maintain Risk Approach Plans to characterize and mitigate each risk assigned to the Element and maintain awareness of crew health and performance concerns and issues associated with Artemis missions.

• Develop the strategic research approach to reducing the risk of adverse events due to space radiation exposure.
• Identify topic areas for national research solicitations and evaluate new proposals and directed research for merit and relevance and provide relevance and feasibility recommendations to the Human Research Program Chief Scientist.
• Manage issues of conflict-of-interest, bias, and confidentiality to ensure fairness and credibility of the proposal, evaluation, selection, award, and administration of Federal awards.
• Oversee and analyze the funded research progress to understand and respond to research results having significant impact to the research approach or any of the risks and updating the approach in response.
• Work directly with the appropriate scientists and clinicians to implement the science established by the research approach and successfully close out the associated human health and performance risks.
• Work closely with NASA Medical Operations personnel to facilitate the transition of research results into clinical practice.
• As a clinical specialist, ensure the scientific components carried out by the Element are focused on mitigating operationally relevant risks and developing countermeasures, clinical guidelines and/or technologies that support exploration missions.
• Provide expertise for the integration and coordination of the radiation research and expertise with other HRP Elements, the Translational Research Institute for Space Health or with other NASA organizations as necessary.
• Coordinate national or international collaborations to identify research approaches by other US or International Agencies that should be leveraged by NASA.
• Ensure all Element scientific or technological activities and plans are synchronized with the Element schedule, cost, procurement plans, and delivery milestones.

In this role, a typical day will include:

• Accountability for setting up, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting manufacturing packaging machinery/equipment.

• Operating manufacturing packaging equipment that packages materials or products by inserting them into containers or filling containers from spouts or chutes.

• Monitoring, evaluating, and adjusting manufacturing packaging equipment to maximize quality and efficiency.

• Restocking machines with packaging materials; may include packing, wrapping, securing, or labeling containers.

• Providing group training and maintaining training progress reports

• Ensuring accurate collection and reporting of daily production data.

• Serving as operational expert; main point of contact for routine support for operations.

• Resolving supply and other resource constraints.

• Leading limited-scope projects: small improvements, Kaizen, 6S, environmental sustainability, etc.

• Initiating product holds and executing QN.

• Back-up to the Line Coordinator.

• Opening and closing orders in CNSPPS and SAP system.

• Handling operational procedures change controls and updates, including creation of job aids and other documentation.

• Generating and presenting post-production risk review deliverables for site products.

• Assuring timely completion of CAPA items.

• Trending customer complaint data, leading and following-up on action items, and communicating to site leadership, regional teams, and global leadership.

• Proficiency in process, product, and data review within respective field of operation in accordance with job responsibility and function, able to troubleshoot process, material and technique-related issues.

• Working with Quality Organization to collect Voice of Customers and understand non-conforming events.

In this role, a typical day will include:

• Designing arrangement of manufacturing equipment to ensure most efficient and productive layout.

• Designing the sequence of production operations, specifying procedures for the fabrication of applicable tools and equipment, and adapting machinery in response to factory conditions.

• Conducting tests throughout all stages of production to determine control over applicable variables and troubleshooting/solving production problems.

• Providing guidance to product design engineering on technical specifications that will best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.

• Ensuring that production processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.

• Actively interacting and communicating upward with Sr. Engineer I, Sr. Engineer II and Principal Engineer.

• Actively participating and communicating with injection molding production floor solving engineering issues as required using statistical data to draw conclusions, provide Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) and develop approach to corrective action, preventive action plan.

• Supporting the timely completion of all Non-Conformance Investigations (NCIs) and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs).

• Utilizing scientific molding practices such as injection speed linearity, load sensitivity, dynamic cavity imbalance, and dynamic check ring repeatability test to troubleshoot process issues.

• Providing front-line, hands-on process assistance, including, mold setup, start, stop, adjust, idle, troubleshoot of injection molding machines, and auxiliary equipment such as robots, thermolators, material systems, and conveying equipment.

• Supporting and assisting defining training plans and programs as required, including seeing training needs through for all associated staff.

• Vigilant pursuit of continuous improvement across all functions assigned.
