General Responsibilities

• Confidently manage the function's functional mailboxes in line with agreed processes / protocols ensuring all work is completed in a timely manner. This includes scrutinising emails, checking rules/processes/policies and precedents and apply these to particular circumstances to decide what action to take. Action often includes escalating the email to the responsible third-party suppliers as necessary, case managing the email and closed down the case when satisfactorily resolved.
• Manage the effective handling of official correspondence in line with agreed processes / protocols, including drafting responses for senior managers and case management of communications and queries until resolved.
• Coordination of meetings between various internal and external stakeholders, including management of electronic calendar invitations and providing support during meetings by taking minutes and updating Action Logs and other meeting documentation.
• Develop and keep maintained contacts lists and distribution lists for communication activities and projects and confidently take these forward autonomously - reporting progress to senior managers.
• Develop a working knowledge of online systems related to HR related contracts and the regulations which govern them (e.g. data protection) in order to provide guidance and advice to internal stakeholders and action system based requests independently (e.g. setting user account permissions to the correct levels as defined by Senior Managers).
• Carry out project and business change coordination and support tasks and maintain registers, trackers and associated documentation.
• Prepare and monitor the associated cost centre's budget on the manager's behalf.

Have an overall awareness of potential risks within the clinical area assessing these at all times (including patient behaviours and working environment) to ensure the health and safety of research participants, visitors and staff and compliance with related legislation and guidelines. Act as the research participants advocate and uphold the quality of each study at all times; this will include assessment, planning and evaluation of individualised care plans as per study protocol. Report adverse events and serious adverse events in accordance with the Trust SOPs and study protocols in a timely and effective manner with reference to the Senior Research Nurse/Midwife/AHP and Principal Investigator. Resolve complaints timeously at a local level and escalate as appropriate. Be responsible for accurate and secure data collection, storage and entry in to case report forms (both paper and electronic) that meet Data Protection Act requirements, including secure backup of study data, as per information governance and study specific guidance. Participate in facilitating clinical trial monitoring in order to meet the safety, integrity and governance requirements of each study. Where relevant, ensure that the processing and storage of human biological samples meets the necessary requirements of the Human Tissue Act, local SOPs and research protocol so that safe handling and quality is assured. Order and maintain trial specific supplies according to study protocols, procedures and regulations and level of recruitment ensuring that resources are used appropriately and efficiently at all times. Participate in the audit and evaluation of clinical practice in the interests of promoting and improving quality care through action on findings. Explainers provide live interpretation in the museum galleries for all our visitors. They also deliver a wide-ranging and creative programme of activities and events for diverse audiences including schools, families, adults and community groups. They reveal the wonder of science by telling authentic stories about our collection and facilitating and supporting the learning of children and adults.

Your role is to engage with visitors and help them learn from our exhibits and collection. You will support with and deliver all learning activities inside the Wonderlab Gallery, an interactive space that encourages and inspires our visitors to investigate with science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

About the role

You will help to deliver an innovative neuro-oncology research project; developing a new preclinical in vivo model of NF2-null meningioma and investigating immunotherapies. The project involves using single-cell RNA-sequencing and murine models of NF2-null tumours, patient-derived xenograft drug screening and validation with a variety of wet-lab techniques. This role is advertised on a fixed-term basis for 2.5 years due to external funding.

The role will be ideally suited to an early-career researcher who is motivated to join a vibrant neuro-oncology research community at the University of Plymouth’s Brain Tumour Research centre of excellence.

Essential:

• Ph.D (or close to completion) in neuro-oncology, immunology or other closely related and relevant subject.
• Competence in a variety of laboratory techniques.
• Extensive knowledge of cancer cell biology and tumour-associated immune cells.
• Skill in protocol development and optimisation.

Desirable:

• Experience in animal research and/or UK Home Office PIL A/B + C (rodents).
• Experience in single-cell RNA-sequencing and/or other omics techniques.
• Bioinformatics skills.
• First-author publications and/or other demonstrable research impacts.

Our Research:

The Parkinson lab’s neuro-oncology research focus centres around NF2-null nervous system tumours; meningioma, schwannoma and ependymoma. We have access to an excellent biobank of primary tumour cells, and use genetic and xenograft murine models to drive translational preclinical research.

Are you enthusiastic, well organised and versatile, with a strong interest in research? Do you have a background in plant bioactive research with experience in bioactive analysis? Are you interested in working with a collaborative research team and want to use your skills and experience to develop research approaches for translation of bioactive-based concepts into real world applications?

We are looking for a researcher to join our research team to investigate the benefits of plant bioactive compounds on animal productivity in a collaborative project with academic and industrial partners. The project is addressing the huge wastage of plant crops that occurs during their processing, through the development of innovative and sustainable valorisation strategies that convert agri-food waste streams into next-generation feed additives to increase animal health and productivity.

In particular, you will focus on the extraction and analysis of phytochemicals from differently processed raw materials and encapsulated formulations, using a range of methodologies, to evaluate their potential for application as feed ingredients.

You will have an undergraduate or masters degree in Food Science and Nutrition, Food Science and Technology, or a closely allied discipline, and a strong background in experimental plant bioactive research with good analytical skills, e.g. chromatography, spectroscopy and bioactivity screening methods. You will be a good organiser, a team player, be highly motivated and able to communicate effectively with other members of the research team.

A LYPFT research project (UPLIFT Asylum) has been awarded a grant to engage asylum seekers and refugees who areexperiencing perinatal mental illness, in research. We are going to do this via social media (TikTok and Instagram), a website, andwellbeing workshops. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who has an interest in perinatal mental health and experiencewith social media to join the team. Working with the project team, asylum seekers and other stakeholders, they will providecomprehensive social media support through excellent and creative written, digital and face to face communication as well asassisting with organisation and running of focus groups and workshops. They will also support the Chief Investigator (CI) andmembers of the project team to successfully deliver the aims and objectives of the UPLIFT project.
