• Responsible for all aspects of the Research Unit, including the research program, personnel, Unit facilities, technology transfer, and fund accountability and distribution of funds and other resources for the research program.
• Guide research programs, determine customer expectations, and advise industry leaders on technical and practical matters related to the research subject.
• Develop and release sunflower germplasm and inbred lines with enhanced yield potential, desirable oil traits, or resistance to crop pests (insects and pathogens), along with effective molecular markers.
• Develop knowledge and technology for sunflower through research on sunflower biochemistry, physiology, genetics, genomics, pathology, and end-use quality.
• Identify and characterize traits associated with resistance to insect pests and improved sunflower-pollinator interactions and evaluate their effectiveness in insect management systems.
• Characterize resistance to diseases in relevant crops, and support development of innovative diagnostic technologies, disease management systems, genomic resources, and crop germplasm exhibiting durable resistance to Sclerotinia sclerotiorum.

• Conduct research on projects to develop novel and improved crop and food products. These may include a focus on pulse crop products for use in flours, beverages, and/or meat substitutes, thereby creating expanded markets for agricultural crops.
• Provide vision, exercise leadership, and maintain line authority over scientists and support personnel assigned to the Unit.
• Ensure that the Unit’s research is integrated into the national strategies for novel and improved crops and food products.
• Maintain and enhance the creativity and productivity of the Unit.
• Hire personnel and manage the human, fiscal, and physical resources assigned to the Unit.
• Serve as the Unit fund holder.
• Provide technical information and consultation, both internal and external to ARS, and ensure the proper interpretation and reporting of scientific research results and information.
• Serve as liaison with cooperating agencies and organizations related to the agricultural industries of the Northern Plains.

The Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) is offering position for research assistant who will work closely with Dr. Meixia Lin working on various projects about Numerical Optimization, Convex and Non-Convex Optimization, Optimal Transport, Machine Learning, and others.

Priority will be given to those who have some computational experience.

Job Description

We are currently seeking talented individuals with:

• Educational research interest in interdisciplinary studies, including but not limited to STEM education, engineering education
• Able to do literature review and summarize the main findings from the literature
• Able to do qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis including but not limited to field observation, interview, systematic literature review, video analysis, statistical modeling, SEM, HLM
• Monitor project progress, draft the reports, and manage (e.g., data tools, curriculum exploration)
• Organize PD sessions for teachers in the local and international settings
• Disseminate the outcomes of the research including in peer-reviewed academic publications of international standing
• Assisting with educational research (e.g., STEM education) proposals preparations, as well as seeking and pursuing appropriate external funding in these areas
• Perform other tasks as required by the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator(s)

Job Requirements

• Proficiency or understanding of at least one of the following education-related fields: (1) STEM education, (2) engineering education, (3) psychology, and/or (4) science education
• Knowledgeable in one of the following concepts: (1) curriculum theory & co-constructed lesson designs, (2) evidence-based research, (3) educational theories (e.g., social cognitive theory, pedagogical content knowledge), (4) assessment, and/or (5) teaching and learning methods (e.g., problem-based learning)
• Proficient communication and writing skills in English
• Preferably knowledgeable and familiar with secondary education setting in Singapore
• Possess excellent problem solving abilities as well as strong attention to detail.
• Someone who can work independently while still collaborating effectively within a team environment when needed.

The Research Assistant / Senior Research Assistant will conduct research in deep learning and Artificial Intelligence, perform experiments, and publish research papers in top-tier venues.

Qualifications & Experiences:

• Bachelor's / Master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field with a focus on computer vision, and an advanced level of understanding and expertise in the field.
• Proficiency in programming languages (Python)
• Familiarity with computer vision libraries and tools (such as OpenCV, TensorFlow, PyTorch) is essential.
