There is no on-call commitment for this post. The consultant staff provide a 24/7 on-call service for Endocrinology and Diabetes. On-call cover for Diabetes Home Care is provided by the Diabetes Specialist Nurses, and occasionally, to cover holidays and sickness, by the consultants. The successful applicant is expected to take active part in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and the training of other relevant staff groups. This includes the mentoring of junior medical staff. Clinical Research is one of the strengths of this Department and the metabolic bone team. 50% of the applicants time is committed to clinical and translational research. The applicant is expected to develop personal research studies, obtain grant funding, assist in recruitment of clinical trials and present their work at national and international meetings. The appointee will be expected to participate in all aspects of the Clinical Governance structure developed by the Trust to monitor, maintain and develop the quality and effectiveness of care. The Trust is committed to the development of medical staff through individual appraisal. This will include audit of personal clinical practice as well as involvement in department/specialty reviews; attention to continuing professional development and to meeting the requirements for Continuing Medical Education defined by the relevant Royal College (and for which appropriate study leave support will be available); awareness of professional standards and the responsibility to undertake safe and ethical clinical practice; the importance of responding promptly to any circumstances which may result in increased clinical risk or adverse outcome. Funding is available for approved study leave as defined in the Trusts study leave policy. The appointee will be expected to provide cross-cover for specialist registrars during periods of leave and short-term sickness absence. Clinically, the applicant will share in the provision of the outpatient service for Endocrinology, the Metabolic Bone and Osteogenesis Imperfecta service, Joint Clinics, and support medical staff on the Medical Day Care Unit.

Fixed term for 36 months

Wrexham University is looking to appoint Research Fellow in Composite Materials Engineering. Initially this role will be located in the Advanced Composites Training and Development Centre, a joint activity with Airbus at the site in Hawarden where there is a state of the art composites facility. The university has secured funding through the North Wales Growth Deal for a new facility, the Enterprise Engineering and Optics Centre on the Plas Coch main site in Wrexham and the building programme is well advanced. The role will transfer to a purpose built facility within this building when it is completed.

The fellow will perform and lead high quality collaborative research, working both independently and as part of the research team and wider academic community to achieve the project goals. They will act as a research leader at the University, develop research objectives, projects and proposals. The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable.

The facilities at present include an extensive array of thermal characterisation, SEM and FTIR microscopy as well as impact and mechanical testing. There is an array of microwave and radio frequency equipment reflecting the specialism of microwave curing for low carbon, fast cycle time processing of composites.

Research Project Support Officer (Public Health Collaborating Unit)

Applications are invited for the above fixed term, full-time post working in the Public Health Collaborating Unit in the School of Health Sciences at Bangor University (Wrexham Technology Park, Wrexham). The Public Health Collaborating Unit is a public health/academic collaborative funded by Public Health Wales which provides a flexible and efficient resource for rapid assessment, evaluation and policy development support to serve Public Health Wales and the wider NHS.

The postholder will provide research support to two projects: 1) a review examining the relationship between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and healthcare engagement, and 2) a research study to understand trauma-informed training for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) practitioners.

Duties will include supporting study development and contributing to data management, data analysis, systematic literature review, and report and paper writing.

Candidates should have a degree with a research component in a health, public health or other scientific, psychological or sociological subject and have previous experience of working in applied public health research. Knowledge of public health, research methods and excellent written communication skills are essential. The successful applicant is expected to be proficient in undertaking scoping reviews, qualitative data collection methods and research related software.

The successful candidate will be expected to commence as soon as possible, and the post is available for a period of 7 months.

This role will be located on campus at Wrexham. Through our Dynamic Working framework, there will also be the option to spend some time working remotely (although remaining in the UK) to support work life balance, which will be discussed further with candidates at interview.
