Avantor is looking for a commercially astute Technical Support & Service Engineer to inspect, troubleshoot, support, repair, configure, calibrate, evaluate, and verify the performance of medical & laboratory devices.
This role will be a full-time position based out of our MESM, Chorley, site. You will be responsible for resolving technical issues as they arise, ensuring appropriate, and deliverable, strategies are developed & actively communicated.

The team
Avantor’s MESM Engineering is part of a team of 11 engineering specialists that are trusted in providing mission - critical products and services to customers in the biopharma, healthcare, education & government as well as advanced technologies & applied materials industries.
What we’re looking for
- Education: A minimum HNC or equivalent professional qualification in Engineering is preferred
- Experience: 3 years + of relevant experience of IV Therapy & associated devices, or experience working with capital medical equipment working in the healthcare sector
- Project management experience is highly preferred
- Lean, Kaizen & 6S highly desirable, to continually improve processes by seeking ways to eliminate and reduce waste
- Knowledge of a wide range of sciences including, but not limited to, electronics (analog and digital), computer science/networking, mechanical engineering design
- High-level technical and problem-solving skills with a thorough understanding of the relevant technology
- Results-oriented, energetic, self-motivated, and a dedicated team player
- Effective communication (verbal and written), presentation skills and ability to work collaboratively as a team player.
- Ability to build relationships with customers with the tact and diplomacy required to deal with customers in stressful situations and provide confident assurance.
- Collaboration tool: Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; experience working with other computer applications (such as databases) with an aptitude to further develop technical skills preferred
How you will thrive and create an impact
Day to day responsibilities:
- Responds to customers’ complex technical inquiries (via telephone, email, and live chat) pertaining to the company’s product lines
- To carry out day-to-day: Performance Assurance / Quality Control (PA / QC) inspections, scheduled maintenance, electrical safety testing (IEC60601-1 / IEC 62353 / AAMI/IEC/EN), operational verification procedures (OVP), Repair & / or calibrate complex and intricate biomedical (medical devices), laboratory & pharmaceutical products
- Inform management / other stakeholders of the status of repairs, scheduled inspections, unusual situations & any customer concerns
- Maintain expertise through ongoing training & education.
- Responsible for ensuring all service documentation is completed, timely & accurately by maintaining the accuracy & integrity of the company ERP system to include the following: inventory, service history, documented results & relevant transactions
- Accountable for the management & stock control of spare parts inventory & minimum level of certain products held in finished goods
- Responds to Medical Equipment Recalls and Alerts as directed by GSM & Corporate QA
- Assist with special projects as assigned
- Research technical documents, reviews product specification and utilizes resources such as technical monographs, company R&D experts, in-house databases, and personal technical background to communicate information to internal & external IHE customers
- Triages and resolves internal / external customers’ technical issues related to quality, applications, products, and delivery systems
- Participates in designing/improving information collection and archiving
- processes with other departments including but not limited to Marketing, Sales, and Quality Assurance
- Participates as part of cross functional team associated with the customer intimacy programs; responsibilities may include project management, data collection and review, hosting and participating in recurring meetings, and issuing meeting minutes
