About the Role
The Supply Chain Services team, based at Bradley Fold, operates under the Operations Directorate. Bury Council oversees the provision of materials and appliances for Bury Housing Management, as well as internal service departments such as Highways, Waste, and Street Cleansing.
The successful candidate will assist the Stores Manager in delivering the Council’s vision and strategic plans for Supply Chain Services, ensuring a high-quality service within the Directorate of Operations.
We are seeking an individual with prior experience in a similar role, ideally holding a valid counterbalance forklift truck licence, along with a reasonable level of education, including English, Maths, and basic IT skills.
Responsibilities
As a Stores Operative, you will manage the receipt, handling, and dispatch of goods in and out of the warehouse, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
Key duties include:
- Managing goods in and out, ensuring all paperwork is accurate
- Conducting quality checks on incoming goods
- Storing goods in designated areas
- Loading dispatch items onto vehicles using a forklift
- Maintaining a tidy and safe warehouse environment
- Operating a forklift (training provided)
- Performing stock checks in line with stock management software
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, able to work independently, and capable of prioritising tasks and meeting deadlines. Physical fitness is essential, as the role involves walking and some heavy lifting.
Working Hours
This is a full-time 12 month fixed term position, with 37 hours per week, generally following standard business hours. However, occasional evening, weekend, and rota-based work may be required, depending on service needs.
