Synopsis of the role

The Data Architect is an organizational thought leader recognized internally and externally as the lead designer of our data assets. Leveraging Data Fabric as an enabler for business transformation, this leader is responsible for designing high level data architecture that enables the organization's transformation from a credit bureau to a data and analytics power house.  In conjunction with the rest of the Data team, this role will play a critical role in the overall data strategy by staying current on emerging trends and innovation in modern data management methods. Reporting to the VP, Data Modernization and working closely with the IT organisation, the Enterprise Data Architect will be responsible for designing and implementing new data architecture that leverages our investment in Cloud technology, including the development of alternate data exchanges within our Data Fabric, and building more flexible tools to ingest and leverage a broader range of data assets . To support the growth in our data assets and in close collaboration with the Data Acquisition team, the Data Architect will work with Data Engineers and Data Scientists within the Data Modernization team to build a traceable and automated data pipeline with quality built in.  To support the robust data environment, this role will work closely with Data Governance, ensuring that there is clear yet nimble oversight,  governance and processes to ensure the protection and consistency of our data assets.

What you’ll do 

• Design and build new data structures to maximise the value of our Cloud-based Data Fabric to expand into new data sources.
• Design a nimble and flexible data architecture that supports structured and unstructured data, both in the traditional credit world and from alternative sources. With a view to flexible product development, and enabling advanced analytics, the data architect will keep consistency of data assets top of mind. 
• Collaborate closely with the Data Acquisition teams to understand the overall data strategy and support through developing strong data architecture plans.
• As the Enterprise Data Architect, work involves developing the standards, tools, and governance for capturing, modelling, storing, and delivering data for the enterprise.
• Develop a high level enterprise data model and conceptual view of related data sub-architectures (e.g.,database, data integration, data warehouse/business intelligence, reporting, metadata, and content management architectures).
• Optimize the overall data/information flow by reducing redundancy and enabling accessibility within security boundaries.
• This role is an individual contributor with responsibility in a highly technical discipline and may manage a small team of employees.

What experience you need 

• Proven track record of both business-minded and data leadership.
• Strong understanding of data-driven, technology based product development with 5 to 7 years of hands-on experience designing and building analytical solutions to solve real world problems.
• Strong knowledge of Cloud-based capabilities and platforms (Google Cloud experience is an asset).
• Experience in analytics, software engineering, data management/architecture or similar disciplines and experience in managing technical documentation.
• In-depth knowledge of Big Data platforms such as Hadoop and the associated tools needed for analytics and  a good understanding of modern data architecture, data security, and design principles.
• Proven experience with Master Data Management and Reference Data Management.
• Strong understanding of agile methodologies including the creation of epics and user stories.

The individual in this position will be responsible for end-to-end delivery and maintenance of high-quality software engineered for cloud-nativity and scale. Working closely with local and global technology and business teams, he/she will be taking the lead on designing, coding, delivering, and supporting highly available, secure and scalable systems. The person in this role will also be expected to work with Product Owners, Product Architects, Technical Architects, Security Officers, Infrastructure team members, Scrum Masters and external parties in order to be successful in their role. This role will have a team of software engineers reporting to them, split into multiple agile delivery squads, along with responsibility of indirectly leading QE and SRE. Ownership, drive, and a passion for engineering are key attributes for success.

What you’ll do

• Working on cloud-native backends and data processing algorithms, focusing on improving and maintaining both new & legacy systems.

• Reviewing code for adherence to best practices.

• Streamlining tedious infrastructure processes, focusing on impactful development work.

• Get hand on experience on latest technologies including Cloud Computing (GCP)

• Participate in collaborative technical discussions that focus on software user experience, design, architecture, and development 

• Perform demonstrations for client stakeholders on project features and sub features, which utilizes the latest Front end and Backend development technologies

• Support continuous improvement by investigating alternatives and technologies and presenting these for architectural review.

What experience you need 

• At least 4 years of professional experience as a Java developer (excluding university courses)

• Hands-on experience in designing and developing applications using Java EE platforms or Python.

• Experience for working with Object Oriented analysis and design using common design patterns.

• Profound insight of Java and JEE internals (Multi threading, Memory Management, Transaction management etc)

• Experience in the Spring Framework

As the Lead Data scientist within the Data & Analytics team at Equifax Canada, you will be critical to driving Data Science innovation, working closely with the rest of the Canadian Equifax Data Science & Insights team and the Data Science community internationally.  You will partner with peers, internal stakeholders and external clients to deliver state of the art decision science models & attributes that leverage Equifax’s vast data assets. These include decision areas covering the credit lifecycle, geodemographic & marketing attributes, ratings & fraud models, as well as any new areas where data driven decision making can be informed by predictive modeling including advanced modeling techniques and machine learning. You will extract the data you need, support redesigning data modeling processes, create new algorithms and predictive models the business needs, and lead analysis of the data and sharing insights with peers.

What you’ll do

• Lead the vision and strategy of Data Science for Equifax Canada (a Centre of Excellence) and develop new tools, advanced analytical techniques and products.
• Work with key clients, stakeholders to support development of proprietary analytical products, custom scores as part of co-innovation projects and effectively communicate analytical results to key stakeholders using strong data visualizations, superior presentation skills and business language to emphasize the “so what” of the analysis.
• Support redesign of the data science model development lifecycle using the latest techniques and methodologies and inventing new ones where needed.
• Project management including defining business and technical requirements, resource planning and analytical solution design.
• Provide recommendations and market insights that support solving complex business problems.
• Ensure quality control of all analytical output by junior and intermediate data scientists.
• Coach and mentor junior and intermediate data scientists in career development and data science skill-set improvement.

What experience you need

• 3+ years’ data science experience with Python, SQL, or R in a large data environment.
• In-depth understanding of advanced machine learning algorithms and statistics: regression, simulation, scenario analysis, modeling, clustering, decision trees, neural networks (including LSTMs, RNNs).
• Hands-on experience designing, building and implementing analytical solutions to solve real world problems. 
• Expert ability to work with machine learning software such as scikit learn, XGBoost, Tensorflow, PyTorch, Transformers. 
• Proficient at developing and leading the technical vision of an organization and working independently and closely with senior leadership to lead data science to continued success into the future.
• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a quantitative discipline such as Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or Physics.
