Oil, Products & Gas (“OPG”) Law has a team of Legal Analysts (paralegals) who provide support for litigation matters for the Americas Exploration & Production (E&P) businesses. This position provides paralegal support to the team of litigation attorneys responsible for those litigation cases and reports to the Supervisor, Legal Analysts, Americas E&P Litigation, OPG Law & Legal Services.
This position requires a skilled Legal Analyst who is knowledgeable in litigation casework, is capable of efficient case management and exhibits strong leadership and influencing skills. The ideal candidate is an experienced Legal Analyst who thrives in a challenging and fast-paced environment, is technology proficient, and has excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate should also excel at solving problems and exhibits a high-level of initiative.
Responsibilities:
This position will perform paralegal tasks under the guidance and direction of attorneys, including:
Manage discovery for a varied and complex litigation docket, including environmental & safety, employment, personal injury, royalty, commercial and property damage disputes.
Assist with internal and external investigations.
Support Chevron employees and contractors in complying with their legal hold responsibilities and understanding the information management lifecycle.
Manage subpoena responses.
Prepare document review protocols and conduct and manage document reviews and monitor costs.
Support facilities with responses to government agencies.
Collaborate with the internal and external legal team to manage preservation, data collection and production.
Conduct factual and legal research, including researching liabilities and conducting witness interviews.
Contribute analysis to, and develop solutions for, the legal teams supported.
Work closely with Chevron business partners, Corporate Leads, Legal Analysts, eDiscovery Project Managers and Outside Counsel to resolve a variety of issues relating to litigation support.
Ensure efficient and appropriate application of Law Function tools, processes, policies and compliance through matter management.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 10 years of experience as a paralegal.
Ability to effectively analyze and communicate legal issues and collaborate across broad functional and organizational lines (e.g., business partners, subject matter experts, attorneys and law professionals).
Strong organizational, analytical, proofreading, editing and research skills.
Ability to exercise good judgment and maintain-high quality performance with competing deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
Strong communication (both oral and written), collaboration and interpersonal skills.
Ability to give effective feedback (both positive and constructive) and receive feedback (both positive and constructive) and act upon it.
Self-starter who is adept at working in a team environment and partnering with management, business partners, in-house counsel, outside counsel and staff.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and think independently on how to solve problems and offer solutions.
Demonstrate a growth mindset.
Ability to commit to contributing your perspective in a professional manner.
Demonstrated initiative, ownership and accountability.
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of tools and the ability to quickly learn new tools.
Demonstrated experience with eDiscovery practice, process, developments and tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced skillset in Microsoft Office tools (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Forms, OneNote, Sway and Visio).
Experience working on large dockets in addition to general litigation.
