The Transporter moves patients to and from diagnostic labs, test and treatment areas, clinics, etc. within the facility. Within the same physical layout, the Transporter will also move patient care equipment, specimens, pharmacy drugs, paperwork, and blood products. The Transporter will also be expected to assist in training a “New Hire” in the proper technique and procedure of Transporter duties.
Hourly Range: $18.00/hr. - $23.00/hr.
• Uses body mechanics to move patients into and out of wheelchairs, beds, stretchers, and other potential vehicles.
• Follows precautions as indicated by patient condition.
• Obtains name and date of birth for patient identification.
• Transports the patient together with their belongings and documentation.
• Notifies care providers of patient arrival.
• Provides read-back to the Blood Bank when transporting blood.
• Delivers patient documentation to the appropriate staff member.
• Demonstrates safe operation of equipment, including steering and brake operation, secure and proper placement of oxygen cylinders, positioning of IV poles, setting of bed alarms, and storage of equipment not in use.
• Demonstrates emergency procedures in the event of equipment failure.
• Describes process for reporting operating problems, failures, and user errors.
• Ensures the comfort of the patient by being attentive. Offers blankets, checks modesty and only engages in appropriate conversation involving patients. Never transports patients in severe pain.
• Alerts nursing staff immediately to any signs of patient distress or equipment malfunction.
• Maintains equipment and reports equipment needing repairs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
