The Occupational Health Nurse is a licensed health care professional responsible for developing, interpreting, and administering employee health and wellness services and organizational safety programs. Develops policies and procedures for employee health services that are compatible with corporate goals and objectives. Coordinates the worker’s compensation and health/wellness programs. Strategic role in site safety programs. Leads ADA/Job Accommodation process. Promotes health maintenance, prevention of illness and injury, and provides consultative guidance on occupational health issues. Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to read and write and converse in English. Willing and able to uphold BD Values.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide organizational leadership for associate, health and wellness. Coordinate day-to-day implementation of industrial health, ergonomic and wellness programs, such as Blood Borne Pathogen, Safety Committee Meetings, and Safety Audits.
Coordinate BBP program and Hepatitis B immunization tracking. Ensure site compliance with federal state, local, and company policies (OSHA, DOT, etc.).
Ensure compliance with FMLA and ADA regulations.
Ensure an effective occupational safety and health programs are maintained with external support from health care providers, insurers, community health and regulatory agencies. Maintains OSHA 300 Log, Incident Rate reporting, Safety Index and incident tracking databases. Gather and compute necessary related metrics for various time periods and as needed for plant, region and corporate worldwide metrics weekly/monthly reporting information
Manage the Respiratory clearance program and oversee respiratory FIT tests.
Administer site’s Workers Compensation program.
Administer site Physical Capacity Profile program.
Provide case management for occupational injuries, and integrated disability management as the liaison between associates, department managers, health care providers, and insurers to minimize worker’s compensation/disability costs and lost-work time.
Minimize absenteeism and health care costs by on-site provision of professional care for minor illnesses and injuries.
Determine appropriateness of any restricted duty requests. Provides guidance on ergonomic issues related to workplace and workstations.
Ensure employment-related medical screenings and procedures are effective and compliant.
Provide elevated care per standing orders and medical surveillance protocols.
Handle Personally-identifiable Health Information (PHI) in communicating with medical providers.
Lead site-wide pandemic response
Other duties as required to support the needs of the business.
Safety culture, policies and practices that ensure an increasingly safe work environment for all associates.
Measurable improvement in safety performance on both incident rates and other measures.
Site compliance with applicable federal, state, local and corporate regulations.
Financially effective management of Workers Compensation cases.
Supervision:
Minimum Education. Licensing, Certification Requirements:
Required : Associates degree – Nursing, Registered Nurse, licensed in Nebraska
Preferred : BA/BS Degree – Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN)
Minimum Experience:
Registered Nurse required
1-3 years’ experience providing nursing treatment, prefer in an occupational setting
Knowledge and Skills:

Able to administer worker’s compensation, disability law, FMLA law, OSHA compliance and regulatory health surveillance
Proficient :
Quality Management Systems knowledge (QSR and ISO)
