We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent General Building Operative to join our Ministry of Justice (MoJ) account in HMP Ranby, this role is based on-site.

There may be a need to work some weekends but this would be on a rota basis (and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary)

At Amey, we’re supporting our justice client, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing them with safe, clean and efficient prisons.

By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.

General Building Operative plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week (across 7 days where a weekend shift pattern is in place).

You will be responsible for:

To work in a team to provide general maintenance tasks and support tradespeople on site.
Provide a professional assistance service to those requesting support including contractor escorting duties when required.
Complete tasks associated with DIY such as Decorating, hanging notice boards, building furniture, repair of items around the prison.
Checking appliances, fittings and general environment are in good working order and all defects reported to Team Leader.
General good housekeeping, including litter picking and landscaping around the grounds if required.
All other FM duties as required directed by team manager.
This role will also support both local and business zero carbon programmes, working towards zero carbon in a strategic and lean manner as and where it is appropriate.
Responsible for ensuring H&S standards are achieved across the contract.

What makes this role unique is you will support the engineers in all maintenance across the site as well as working independently. Prison Security Clearance will be required (Amey will support you through this process).

CITB relevant certification or equivalent.

Grounds Maintenance Operative plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner.

You will be responsible for:

General maintenance, such as grass cutting, hedge trimming, clearing leaves and litter, verges, weed spraying, tree care, horticulture activities such as. planting, pruning and seeding.
Erect and dismantle equipment, operating light plant and power tools, undertake cutting equipment checks.
Setting out, making sports pitches including grass and tarmac with upkeep of artificial, synthetic pitches in recreational areas.
Painting sundry equipment.
Drainage works.
General good housekeeping, including litter picking around the grounds if required.
All other FM duties as required directed by team manager.
This role will also support both local and business zero carbon programmes, working towards zero carbon in a strategic and lean manner as and where it is appropriate.
Responsible for ensuring H&S standards are achieved across the contract.
What makes this role unique?

You will have a positive impact on the environment within the prison grounds, sometimes working alongside prisoners. Prison Security Clearance including Counter Terrorism Check will be required (Amey will support you through this process).

Full driving licence.
Knowledge and experience of gardening, horticulture operations and grounds maintenance type duties.
Weed spraying certificate.

Electrician plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner.

You will be responsible for:

Planned and preventative electrical maintenance.
Diagnosing and replacing failed domestic electrical components.
Responding to breakdowns ensuring all works are carried out under the appropriate Safe System of Work and in a timely manner.
Actively fault finding / problem solving on domestic electrical systems across the prison.
Undertaking electrical installation activities in accordance with the design provided and IET Wiring Regulations.
Testing and inspecting electrical installations in accordance with the current IEE wiring regulations.
Monitoring and ordering critical spares for all electrical services.
Other tasks as required by the Site
This role will also support both local and business zero carbon programmes, working towards zero carbon in a strategic and lean manner as and where it is appropriate.
Responsible for ensuring H&S standards are achieved across the contract.
What makes this role unique is you will test and inspect electrical installations across prison facilities in accordance with the 18th IEE wiring regulations as amended from time to time. Prison Security Clearance will be required (Amey will support you through this process).



We want to hear from you if you have/are:

Appropriate technical qualification eg City & Guilds 2365 parts 1-3, BTEC, NVQ level 3 or above
BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations, specifically 18th Edition*.
Experience of electrical maintenance activities, general distribution and installation and testing.
Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at work Regulations.
Capable of working at heights.
Ability to work alone and use initiative.
Ideally you will be qualified in 18th Edition (however if you currently only have 17th Edition, we will sponsor you to upgrade to the 18th Edition; terms and conditions apply) with experience in electrical maintenance within a commercial environment.



In addition to this, it would be desirable if you have IT skills and experience in fire alarm systems and CCTV systems to help you hit the ground running, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.

You will be responsible for:

Assist in and supervise the delivery of a range of facilities services to the prison in line with contractual commitments. Compliance focused.
Help to maintain standards as set out in the Service Level Agreement.
Communicate problems and concerns promptly through line management ensuring quick resolution.
Ensure the health, safety and security of staff, contractors, premises, and equipment by encouraging and monitoring best practices at all times.
Check and sign timesheets in accordance with procedures.
Ensure all requirements are met through liaising with HMPS management to receive and manage expectations.

Previous experience of working within the Facilities/Estate management arena.
Facilities Management qualifications are advantageous.
A level 3 qualification in a trade is advantageous but not essential, with Plumbing being ideal.
Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and compliance.
IT Literate.
Team management, working on own initiative, understand deadlines and priority.
Management of engineers, dealing with customer and client.


Ideally you will be qualified in IOSH with experience in Facilities Management.



In addition to this, it would be desirable if you have a calm attitude under pressure and experience in using Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) systems to help you hit the ground running, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Contractor Escort to join our Ministry of Justice (MoJ) account in HMP Full Sutton, Moor Ln, Full Sutton, York YO41 1PS, this role is based on-site. Public transport to the area is limited so a car to get to/from work is essential.



The salary is £24,469.85.



At Amey, we’re supporting our justice client, Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing them with safe, clean and efficient prisons. By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.



Contractor Escort plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner.



The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

You will be responsible for:

Safety and contractor checks and monitoring
Site induction duties
You will also be flexibly deployed to provide a range of other support service activities within operational areas of an establishment when required, including aiding contractors working on site
This role will also support both local and business zero carbon programmes, working towards zero carbon in a strategic and lean manner as and where it is appropriate.
Responsible for ensuring H&S standards are achieved across the contract.
What makes this role unique?

You will be a key part of the maintenance team, responsible for those on site without security clearance. Prison Security Clearance including Counter Terrorism Check will be required (Amey will support you through this process).

Your New Role



We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our Ministry of Justice (MoJ) account in HMP Hindley, Barracks Road, Wigan WN2 5TH. This role is primarily based on-site however you may occasionally work at other sites within the North West, transport, tools and equipment will be provided. HMP Hindley is accessible by public transport and has free parking available.



The salary is £24,469.85 and there may be a need to work some weekends, but this would be on a rota basis (and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary). You will also be required to participate in an out of hours on call rota, paid as required.

Grounds Maintenance Operative plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner.



The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week (across 7 days where a weekend shift pattern is in place).

You will be responsible for:

General Grounds Maintenance, such as grass cutting, pruning, hedge trimming, clearing leaves litter, verges and weed spraying.
General good housekeeping, including litter picking around the grounds if required.
General handymen duties including, building flat pack furniture, putting up shelves if required.
Assist in Facility Management duties as required directed by Team Supervisor.
This role will also support both local and business zero carbon programmes, working towards zero carbon in a strategic and lean manner as and where it is appropriate.
Responsible for ensuring H&S standards are achieved across the contract.


What makes this role unique is you will have a positive impact on the environment within the prison grounds, sometimes working alongside prisoners. Prison Security Clearance will be required (Amey will support you through this process).



We want to hear from you if you have:

Full driving licence.
Knowledge and experience of Grounds Maintenance type duties including gardening, horticulture operations.
Experience in operating light plant and equipment including Motorised Tractors.
Understanding of Health and Safety Legislation.


In addition to this, it would be desirable if you are comfortable in a prisoner-facing environment and are confident to share skills and experience with others to help you hit the ground running, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.
