Mental Health Team
The essential qualifications for a Social Worker within the Mental Health Team are a degree in Social Work and registration with the SSSC as a Social Worker is essential a Diploma in Social Work with SSSC registration as a social worker is an acceptable alternative.
The mental health team is based within joint mental health and substance use services in ‘number 11’ St Andrew Street, Dalkeith. Social workers and mental health officers are co-located with psychiatry, psychology, nursing and occupational therapy colleagues. It is also located with justice and third sector services. Integration is a strong focus for all professionals and there is considerable joint working between the teams.
The mental health social worker role involves the assessment and care management of people who have been diagnosed with a severe and enduring mental health condition. There is significant face to face contact with service users, carers and other professionals. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, have some experience of working with this service user group and knowledge of the complexities and difficulties faced. The social work team is made up of 5 mental health officers and 2 social workers, one of whom is shortly going on maternity leave. The successful candidate will be working with a very supportive and cohesive social work team. There is some scope to look at working from home where appropriate.
