As a Health Care Professional, you will be joining our team of clinicians who are on hand 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assess and address the health needs of detained persons, as well as conducting forensic medical examinations gathering evidence for use in the criminal justice system. The role will involve conducting clinical assessments, identifying and implementing appropriate interventions, collecting forensic samples, providing advice and guidance and maintaining detailed and accurate records to ensure the health, safety and welfare of detained persons held in police custody Provide a professional, responsive and caring service to detained persons in the custody environment to support the Custody Sergeant and Custody Officers in assessing the healthcare needs of detained persons and an effective care pathway throughout their time in custody. Carry out forensic sampling. Determine an individuals fitness to be detained, fitness to be released, fitness to be interviewed and competence to understand charge. Assessment of alcohol and drug intoxication and withdrawal and retrieval of blood samples under the Road Traffic Act. Provide advice and support to Custody Officers in determining the health care needs of detainees and the priorities of care. Seek telephone advice and refer cases to the Consultant FME when required. Effectively deliver the requirements of the forensic practitioner service following the Codes of Practice of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and locally agreed protocols. Abide by the NMC code of conduct, maintain professional development through training and experience, and use opportunities to promote the role of nurses in the custody setting. Keep accurate, complete and contemporaneous notes of work carried out, including the recording of injuries. Ensure all activities are logged using the systems in use. Participate in the collection of data for service audits and other mechanisms for achieving continuous service improvement. Keep up to date on current internal and external procedures and regulations.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Main Duties and Responsibilities: Undertake assessments of individuals with complex physical/mental health presentations, including those patients presenting with higher levels of risk. Develop in collaboration with the patient their care plan and their recovery plan. Offer specialist nursing assessment and advice where required. Take the lead in delivering therapeutic group work programmes as required. Administer medication, complying with relevant Trust procedures and NMC Guidance. Ensure the safety of all patients as determined by the clinical team. This includes the supervision of patients within the Unit, grounds and the community, as required. Provide clinical and managerial leadership on the ward. Assess and manage ongoing risks as identified during assessment, ensuring that this is done in collaboration with patients and carers. Regularly review risk factors and make changes to the management of them as necessary. Regularly take charge of the clinical environment over a span of duty. Work in conjunction with the Clinical Manager in setting clinical and educational standards and monitor and maintain these standards. Regularly undertake audits of clinical activity and standards and develop plans of action to address any improvements required. The post holder will be required to work within the NMC Code of Practice and professional guidelines. The training leads to a BABCP level 2 postgraduate diploma in CBT. Hours:One year fixed term training post. Full Time (Minimum of 0.8wte - 30 hours per week accepted due to University course commitments). Trainees working the full five days will have one dedicated to wider CAMHS service delivery work. Location:To be confirmed on offer of appointment, however bases will be with in one of the Hampshire CAMHS teams in the North (Basingstoke) West (Eastleigh/New Forest/Winchester and Test Valley) or South East (Fareham/Havant) of Hampshire. Course Requirements: The course you will be completing at the University of Reading as part of this role is a Level 2 accredited course with BABCP. This means that upon completion trainees will meet criteria to apply for provisional accreditation as a CBT therapist with the BABCP. To apply, you must meet the criteria for CBT training and also have a BABCP-recognised professional background in mental health or related areas. This means having a recognised Core Profession.
