What skills and experience we're looking for

We have an exciting opportunity for a Teacher of Design Technology / Hospitality and Catering to join Durham Academy from September 2024. We wish to appoint a committed and highly effective teacher to teach across our key stages. You should be educated to degree level and hold qualified teacher status (QTS) as well as having experience of teaching to KS3 and KS4.

The successful applicant is expected to facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential as well as contribute to raising standards of student attainment. You will be able to demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of teaching, learning and personalisation strategies and be responsible for maintaining the highest quality of monitoring and evaluating whilst improving the standard of achievement for all students.

You will be confident in your abilities to effectively teach Food and Product Design across Key Stages 3 & 4. You will be adept in creating a supportive, encouraging and safe learning environment for all students. The McIntyre Centre in Bishop Auckland is an exciting new development for the Bishop Auckland College Group. Located in the town centre, the iconic Grade II listed building has been at the heart of the community for more than 150 years. About the role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to coordinate the efficient and effective operation of McIntyre's hospitality and catering services. You will be part of an exciting new team creating a vibrant hospitality and catering training venue in the heart of the town centre, supporting young people and adults to move into employment in the hospitality and catering sector. You will oversee the day-to-day running of the restaurant and retail area, promoting a professional and welcoming atmosphere for every guest.

The candidate we are looking for is a dedicated professional with meticulous attention to detail, who can create a positive welcoming environment for customers. They will have successfully managed front of house and have a passion for training others to achieve their high standards.

The successful candidate will possess a Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject area, Level 2 Food Safety certificate (to be achieved within 6 weeks) and First Aid qualification (or willing to work towards within 6 weeks). It is desirable that the candidate will also possess an IT qualification and Level 2 Equality & Diversity.

Applicants will have proven experience of coordinating hospitality services and experience of delivering high-quality customer service to guests.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing and supporting learners in achieving their hospitality qualifications. This role involves visiting learners at their workplace, conducting assessments, providing feedback, and ensuring all regulatory and compliance requirements are met.

We are keen to hear from candidates who have sound knowledge and experience within the hospitality field with experience of delivering the NVQ Levels in Hospitality

You will be able to provide outstanding support for learners and be able to demonstrate your organisational and planning skills and talk through your achievements and learner successes. Your role will be to conduct and evaluate individual initial assessment ensuring all learners are on the correct programme at the right level. To develop positive relationships with learners and employers on a monthly basis. To actively promote the use of e-portfolio to all learners and employers. To ensure all learners participate in an ‘exit interview’ to be undertaken as part of quality assurance visits, which encompasses all aspects of the process. You will also need to be flexible

Ideally you will have experience of the following:

Deliver training programmes to assigned learners clients, ensuring the highest possible standards are achieved.
Covering a regional area and travelling to visit learners in the workplace to undertake assessments.
Complete ILP’s and map out learning routes for individuals.
Reference and mark evidence collated in the workplace for key skill requirements.
Completion of learner attendance records and learner-guided contact hours, ensuring audit requirements are met.
Contribute to the planning, monitoring, and achievement of agreed performance targets.
To arrange further training through day release and to deliver in-house training support as required.
Maintain appropriate records of the client’s achievements and meet performance criteria as laid down by relevant awarding bodies.
