Evaluates critical and emergency procedures and prioritizes them to accommodate the situation. The examinations are achieved by using x-ray equipment such as digital radiography (DR), computed radiography (CR), computed tomography (CT), general radiography (conventional/analog), fluoroscopy, portable radiographic and other devices for the purpose of producing high quality diagnostic images to provide appropriate diagnosis and treatment of identified abnormalities. The amount of time spent in each modality will be contingent upon the needs of the department. The incumbent will work a minimum of30% in Computed Tomography and as much as l00%. The incumbent will work between 1-70% in General Radiography. Duties or Functions of this position include but are not limited to:

• Employee understands and complies with the laws, regulations, and industry standards which apply to their job functions and performs those functions with the highest standards of business integrity. Responsible to the radiologists and supervisor for the quality and quantity of radiographic exams performed in order to assure a high level of acceptability of radiographs while minimizing patient exposure and reducing costs.
• Performs routine to moderately complex radiographic procedures that may require utilization of contrast materials and sterile techniques including but not limited to general radiography, computed tomography, etc. Assist radiologists or other professional staff in the performance of fluoroscopic examinations (i.e. UGI, BE, IVP, etc.)
• Prepares contrast materials under the direction of the radiologist for the purpose of performing exams requiring injectable solutions such as IVP, computed tomography with contrast, cystograms, cholangiograms, fistulagrams, as well as other oral and rectal exams of the GI tract. These procedures require the use of needles, syringes, renografin, barium, enema bags, drinking cups, etc. Improper use or administration of the contrast materials runs the risk of patient mortality. Therefore, it is essential that those who prepare and administer contrast materials possess a thorough understanding of its usage and contraindications. This requires continual alertness to the patient's condition and other disorders. The alertness is essential for the recognition of potential patient reactions. Reactions require an immediate response to minimize harm and ensure patient safety. Therefore, CPR certification and demonstrated venipuncture competency is a requirement for this position.
• Determines technical factors, positioning, etc., to produce a high quality diagnostic and/or computed tomography image and confers with the radiologists to determine the requirements for non-standard exams that do not conform to established standard protocols. Notifies the physician of scans requiring their immediate attention. Performs advanced image manipulations and/or reconstructions on workstations as directed by the radiologist, healthcare professional or standard protocol.
• Responsible to the radiologists and supervisor for the quality and quantity of radiographic exams performed in order to assure a high level of acceptability of radiographs while minimizing patient dosage and reducing costs.
• Properly identifies the patient and the image. Uses left, right and other markers when appropriate. This is essential so that mistaken identity does not occur. The technologist must be certain that the patient ID band (if applicable) and the request are identical. Confirms patient identity by verbally confirming patient name and social security number and/or date of birth.
• Performs radiographic exams at the bedside and/or in the operating/surgical suites. Responsible for providing quality diagnostic radiographs for the surgeons and/or other professional staff on patients that are unable to receive imaging services within the radiology department due to patient incapacity or surgical requirement. This job opportunity announcement (JOA) will be used to fill one (1) full-time and permanent Medical Records Technician (Health Information Technician) (MRT HIT) vacancy at the Lexington VA Health Care System (LVAHCS), with Business Office Service.

This is considered the journey level for MRTs HIT. MRTs HIT at this level review, analyze, abstract, maintain, extract, and compile information from the health record independently with minimal supervision. They analyze health records for accuracy, completeness, timeliness, consistency, and compliance (e.g., scanned, uploaded, use of correct titles, linked to correct encounters, etc.) with HIM industry standards, policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and accreditation requirements. They also coordinate and/or perform health record review activities to satisfy external accreditation requirements and medical center performance measures. They communicate regularly with staff at various levels of the organization regarding delinquent health records and notify individual clinical providers regarding incomplete medical records. MRTs HIT prepare complex reports, calculate department statistics, note the status of all incomplete/delinquent records, and submit reports to the appropriate administrative and clinical staff and committees/leadership to ensure deficiencies are resolved and completed appropriately. They serve as the expert resource for clinical staff and assist clinical providers with completion or correction of their health record documentation. They conduct the review of incomplete records for individuals clearing the facility. MRTs HIT coordinate the use of medical speech recognition/transcription and monitor, verify, troubleshoot, correct, and/or upload all transcription/medical speech recognition to maintain completeness and accuracy of health records. They serve as the technical expert in health record content and documentation requirements.

The duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

PIV Registrar & Activator Duties:

• Process USAccess Sponsor requests and required HSPD-12 Roles letters and training of the Sponsors.
• Document in Share Point maintaining a list of all service appointed/ approved USAccess Sponsors annually as required by HSPD-12.
• Assist service appointed USAccess sponsors with questions regarding USAccess PIV sponsorship.
• Identity proofing of all applicants using FIPS 201-3.
• Determine if a PIV identity badge is approved to be issued based on specific PIV issuing criteria as outlined in VA Directive 0735/0710.
• Complete all biometric requirements including USAccess PIV badging specific fingerprints.
• Print, issue and credential PIV cards
• Check-in, issue, and credential PIV cards received from Central Printing.
• Manage PIV scheduler for appointments
• Inspect printed cards for quality and compliance.
• Troubleshooting printed PIV cards using USAccess guides.
• Terminate/destroy PIV cards as required.
• Maintain PIV badging office supplies.
• Completes all required Annual and refresher training as required by HSPD-12/PerSec.

• Capture fingerprints for submission to OPM.
• Enter required Data entry in multiple security databases for New Hire tracking.
• Initiate background investigation application utilizing eAPP.
• Review new hire investigations and other onboarding documents for completeness & accuracy.
• Track onboarding security tasks in Staffing and Security systems.
• Query security data in OPM/VHA Security systems.
• Communicate with HR Onboarding team when issues arise.

The registered nurse possesses basic knowledge and skills to apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting which will then enable effective implementation of health promotion and prevention practices, management of acute and chronic illnesses, and attainment of optimal levels of functioning and/or support of the dying patient and significant others. As an entry level position, the nurse is committed to continued professional development. Role responsibilities and accountabilities also include demonstration of knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of patients served in the assigned area of practice. This knowledge includes understanding changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric population.
