The Senior Manager, Communications will play a key role as the communication business partner to the President of BD’s North America (NA) region and Chief Marketing Officer, providing strategic and tactical communication support to the regional leadership team, in coordination with the Corporate Communications team. This position is responsible for driving impactful employee engagement with targeted audiences, developing and implementing communication strategies and messages that support key NA business objectives. This includes creating NA business specific content and identifying appropriate channels; improving associate understanding of regional priorities; and working with Corporate to advance the region’s vision to deliver differentiated value in a dynamic healthcare market.

In collaboration with NA Region leaders and the Corporate Communications team, the Senior Manager, NA Region Communications will ensure internal communications strategies are designed and executed to progress agreed business objectives with associates, and drive growth and integration activities across the region. This person will be responsible for enhancing internal communications tools and channels that effectively engage sales leaders and field-based associates throughout the country as well as the broader region associate base, while conducting ongoing measurement of content and channels to inform future approaches.
Directly reporting to the Senior Director HR, and a dotted line to Corporate Communications, the Senior Manager, Communications will lead multiple integrated communications projects and initiatives that will require collaboration across other areas of the business, often with competing priorities, tight timelines, and limited budget.
This person is a thinker and a doer who can create a strategy as well as execute, with strong writing skills across channels and a track record of performance in a matrixed environment that requires cross-functional coordination.
Primary Responsibilities
As the lead NA Region communicator, manage all communications for the President of the North America Region including employee engagement communications through a variety of unique vehicles and approaches, customer communications and presentations, and social media content for personal and company channels, i.e. intranet, LinkedIn, etc.
Create regional message tracks and content in support of relevant content pillars that align with and complement BD corporate and BU-specific messages and themes. Internally promote regional accomplishments and progress against key initiatives through a variety of creative communication channels that increase associate awareness of the NA Region, drive regional senior leader visibility, underscore the region’s role within BD and importance of BD to customer success, and highlight the evolution of the team to increase pride among associates and build BD’s culture in the region.
Align NA Region communications plans and tactics with Corporate Communications to ensure alignment and consistency of messages with broader company goals and other corporate plans, while also providing NA Regional content for amplification in broader companywide and segment-specific communication. The Corporate Communications team is a key partner and stakeholder for this role as part of enterprise initiatives to drive understanding of progress against BD 2025 plans.
Identify the correct channels and channel strategy for regional communications vis a vis existing cadence of corporate, business unit, customer/marketing and segment channels and messages. Ensure the appropriate application of corporate messages for resonance with the regional audience.
Consistently track and measure effectiveness of regional communication efforts to inform future content and communication approaches.
Ensure coordination with and build strong relationships across HR, communications, HR, IDE, marketing, businesses and functions.
Lead the communications development for strategic presentations, coordinating with other commercial stakeholders, aligning to corporate branding guidelines and working with third parties
Minimum Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree required – preferably in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field. Advanced degree is a plus.
5+ years of relevant professional corporate communications experience with substantial experience working in internal/external communications for a publicly traded health care company, highly regulated industry, or major global brand.
Proven ability to create and execute an integrated regional specific internal and external communications strategy while working closely with corporate communications colleagues and a variety of disciplines in communications and across a matrixed company.
Experience leading internal communications programs, employee engagement initiatives and leadership communications about key business updates, including message development, content management and strategic internal communications approaches.
Ability to develop external digital content specific to the NA Region for executive channels, as well as overall company channels, and manage regional external campaigns and messages. Experience customizing content and creating clear direction for content pillars and channels.
Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and presentation capabilities in a corporate environment and strong executive presence and the highest levels of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
Flexible outlook and mindset that is energized by working in a fast-paced dynamic environment with the ability to prioritize and multi-task, take initiative and act independently, and work under tight deadlines.
Strong ability to collaborate and capable of building consensus and strong working relationships within a highly matrixed organizational structure.
Creativity and resourcefulness with strong problem-solving abilities and proven abilities to think ahead.
Outstanding business acumen and demonstrated experience working closely and collaboratively with senior leaders across a global organization.
Ability to travel as needed, approximately 5-10%
