Overview
The job-holder assesses, implements and evaluates infection control practices by nursing staff. The job-holder is responsible for staff education and competency in infection control.
Job Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates infection control practices of nursing staff, doctors and all healthcare workers in AH
- Conducts teaching for nursing, paramedical and medical staffs and students in infection control practices and guidelines
- Coordinates and collaborates with other healthcare team members and service providers on infection control practices and guidelines
- Participates and assist with audits on infection control practices
- Reviews and develops infection control policies and procedures in consultation with nurse managers, doctors and Infection Prevention Committee
- Compiles information on epidemiological organism and nosocomial infection data and assist with the initiation of actions where necessary
- Carries out investigations, conducts follow-ups during major outbreaks in the unit and / or hospital
- Plans, implements and evaluates in service talks and training courses / activities based on infection control policies
- Ensures patient care delivery follows established standards of care and infection control policies
- Applies understanding of prevention of medico-legal issues in relation to patient care
- Assist to prepare reports on infections and other related statistics required by AH, Medical Affairs (Quality Assurance) and / or MOH, and other departments upon requests
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Acts as a resource person t- nursing, medical, paramedics and administrative staff on issues relating to outbreaks and infection control issues. Reports to relevant hospital / medical administrators when required
- Updates and maintains relevant infection control statistics
- Participates / leads in quality improvement / research projects
- Participates / leads in unit-based infection control team
- Follows up with accidental sharps / mucus membrane exposures to blood and body fluids
- Informs and notifies wards and relevant staff / or government authority of patients with communicable disease
- Assists in arranging prompt isolation of infected patients in co-operation with nursing managers / nursing staff
- Participates / conducts orientation programs for nursing staff and students
- Assumes additional responsibilities or tasks as assigned by the Nurse Clinician, Deputy/Assistant Director (Nursing) and Chief Nurse
Requirements
- Registered Nurse with at least 7 years of post-registration clinical experience, of which 2 years must be as Senior Staff Nurse I
- Diploma in Nursing with relevant post-basic advanced certification and Degree in Nursing from recognized training institution as approved by Singapore Nursing Board, and certification / prior working experience for a year in infection control.
- Technically skilled, competent and able to work independently
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Computer literacy skills –MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint
