If so, the Lodestar Academy is seeking to appoint a dedicated and skilled Science Teacher to join our team from January 2025.

You will join a small team of creative teaching practitioners who work with students unable to maintain a place in a mainstream setting. This includes some of the most disadvantaged students in Torbay, so you will need to be prepared to set high expectations and deliver quality teaching first, every time.

This post is suitable for either an experienced teacher or an Early Career Teacher (ECT).

You will benefit from a support network which includes senior leaders, fellow teachers within the school and across the South West Hub and our Trust.

Lodestar Academy is a dynamic academy based in Torbay, who have built an impressive reputation in the alternative education provision sector for young people aged 11-18. We believe that all young people have the capacity to learn, regardless of their life situation. And our aim is to open the door to learning for those - often with social, emotional and mental health needs - who have been excluded or marginalised.

Our academy will provide a safe, nurturing environment for 50 secondary-age students who have been unable to sustain a place in mainstream education. By prioritising academic achievement and introducing behaviour interventions and therapeutic support where necessary, it will enable them to re-integrate at the same key stage as their peers, and go on to access opportunities into employment and further education.

Job Purpose

To be an effective teacher and tutor who supports and challenges all students to achieve their full potential.

Accountabilities:

1. To maintain a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the teaching of your subject(s) and take account of wider curriculum and pastoral developments which are relevant to your work.

2. To plan tutorials, activities, lessons, and sequences of lessons to meet students’ individual learning needs.

3. To use a range of appropriate strategies and follow School policies for tutoring, teaching, behaviour management and classroom management.

4. To do all you can, involving parents and other agencies, to ensure that because of your tutoring and teaching you promote the health, safety, economic wellbeing and achievement of your students.

5. To assess, monitor and record the progress of students in your teaching and tutorial groups and give them clear and constructive feedback.

6. To set well-grounded expectations for students in your teaching and tutorial groups using information about prior knowledge and previous attainment, making progress as good or better than similar students nationally.

7. To take responsibility for your own professional development and use the outcomes to improve your tutoring and teaching and your students’ learning.

8. To make an active contribution to the policies, aspirations and plans of your year group, of your curriculum team and of the school.

Job Advert

Salary: £45,000 per annum

Hours: 37.5 hrs per week, Monday to Friday

Location: Head office in Exeter, with opportunities to work remotely.

Duration: 2-year Fixed Term Contract





THE ROLE

Coordinating research activities at the Centre for Post Collision Care, the Senior Research Coordinator will deliver key
objectives related to road injury research and global health efforts by collaborating with academic institutions and establishing
partnerships with universities and international research bodies. Driving strategic project planning, you will mentor junior
researchers, ensuring project alignment and high-quality research output whilst fostering a culture of academic growth. As part of
the role, you will represent the Centre at meetings, conferences and international forums, including WHO and UN events.



THE CANDIDATE

Will have a business / management qualification or degree and a strong background in strategic research planning as well as
experience in research project coordination and team management. Proficient IT skills to include Microsoft Outlook, Excel and
Teams. The ideal candidate will have experience with grant writing and securing research funding.





THE PACKAGE

Salary: £45,000 per annum.
