Position Title: Technical Events Officer
Part / Full Time: Full time
Location : BWF Headquarters - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Reports To : Head of Tournament Development
Overall Duties : Reporting to the Head of Tournament Development, the Technical Events
Officer will provide support of the day to day administrative functions of
the Events Department.
The Technical Events Officer responsibilities include:
- World Ranking, Tournament, and Draw Management systems for badminton, Para badminton, and AirBadminton.
- Player Management including Prize Money Distribution, Player Transfer/Player Retirement Processes.
- Data collection, analysis and presentation related to World Ranking and other Tournament related Topics.
- Assist with the preparation of information for reporting and presentations.
- Administrative support for Para badminton, including classification.
- Other areas where support may be needed.

Responsibilities
Under the leadership of the Head of Tournament Development, the Technical Events
Officer is responsible for:
- Undertaking day-to-day administrative tasks of the Events Department. This includes the following:
- Communicating with Continental Confederations / BWF Members and providing information related to regulations, payments, World Rankings, general Event related enquiries in a customer service type capacity.
- Gathering information/data on Events Projects.
- Preparing reports, presentations and conference papers
- Archiving World Ranking and other Events related documentation
- Using the BWF Extranet to manage day to day tasks
2. The effective implementation and accurate management, either leading the administration, or supporting the team as an accurate back-up for World Ranking, Tournament, and Draw Management systems for badminton, Para badminton, and AirBadminton:
- Para badminton World Rankings, and Paralympic/Para badminton World Championship Qualification Ranking
- Para badminton M&Q Reports, Seeding Reports, Draw
- World Rankings, World Tour Rankings, World Team Rankings, World Junior Rankings, Olympic/World Championship Qualification Rankings, Qualification Rankings
- Badminton M&Q Reports, Seeding Reports, Draws
The Technical Events Officer will support the Head of Tournament Development in the following areas:
3. Player Management including the following:
- Effectively maintain and update the tracking and distribution of tournament prize money for Grade 2 Tournaments
- Effectively administer the Player Transfer Process
- Effectively administer the Player Retirement Process
- Maintain badminton and Para badminton Player IDs
4. Effectively administer the misconduct, penalty and withdrawal penalty processes for all Grade 1, 2, and 3, and Para Badminton Tournaments, including the following:
- Receipt and tracking of misconduct and withdrawal reports and related penalties
- Working with the Finance Department on the invoicing of financial penalties and fees
- Tracking the outstanding invoices and accounting for any overdue payments
- Maintaining, updating, publishing, and distributing the barred player list
5. Contribute towards accurate and timely administration of qualification processes and other required support for the BWF Major Championships, such as the Thomas & Uber Cup Finals, BWF World Championships, BWF World Senior Championships, BWF World Junior Championships and HSBC BWF World Tour Finals.
6. Other areas of support (as needed):
- Analysis Projects, including World Ranking, and other Tournament Statistics
- Support with Major Events Projects, as required.
- Provide full, effective, independent, and accurate back-up support to the Assistant Events Manager responsible for online sanctioning, including badminton and Para badminton tournaments.
- Provide full, effective, independent, and accurate back-up support to the Assistant Events Officer responsible for the Equipment Approval Scheme.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of workshops to Continental Confederations and Members, as necessary.
7. Other projects as assigned.
Qualities / Attributes / Experience
- The successful candidate will have the following skills and attributes:

The following are desirable attributes but not essential:
- Badminton technical experience
- Athlete experience would be an advantage.
Selection Criteria
Candidates for the position will require a range of personal and professional skills to be considered for the role. The key criteria below will be used as a basis for short listing candidates for the interview phase. a) Qualifications and Experience
1. Relevant formal qualifications – a degree in events/business/marketing/ communication management or general sports administration;
2. Relevant experience in events management (preferably badminton)
3. Experience in working in multi-cultural work environments;
b) Knowledge and Skills
1. An understanding of technical and event delivery areas of badminton.
2. Excellent interpersonal skills and proven capacity to support the work of others.
3. Strong planning and organisational skills.
4. Demonstrated ability to problem-solve.
5. Ability to prioritize large volumes of work and manage priorities.
6. Excellent English written and spoken language skills and presentation skills.
7. Ability to use Microsoft Excel to a good level.

Remuneration
Negotiated with the successful candidate depending on qualifications and experience.
Contract
A contract period will be offered to the successful candidate. Length of the contract to be discussed. Performance appraisals, against mutually agreed performance objectives will be a regular part of employment.
Hours of Work
The position is contracted and full time. The nature of the work requires flexibility during busy
periods and will involve work on weekends and at times during holidays. The position will not require significant travel overseas. If occasional travel overseas is required, no time in lieu arrangements exist for additional hours worked. The remuneration package will reflect experience, the extent of the role, level of responsibilities, and the work requirements needed.
