- Examine patient, determine need for and orders laboratory tests, x-rays, and other procedures necessary.
- Interpret examination findings and test results.
- Diagnose disease or disorder and prescribe course of treatment.
- Follow progress of case and modifies course of treatment as necessary.
- Provide treatment services for patients to include more complex cases where symptoms are difficult to identify.
- Examine treatment regimens involving use of complicated procedures, new techniques, or where patient's condition is critical or fails to respond to previously tried treatments.
- Serve as consultant in the field for medical officers in this and other specialties.
