The Essex PCN service are looking to recruit CWPs to continue to improve children and young people’s mental health services in Essex. The training forms part of the service transformation initiative delivered by NHS England as part of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health CYP Psychological Trainings (PT) (formerly CYP IAPT) programmes.

Trainees will join our already established PCN service across Essex to support young peoples mental health and wellbeing in the community.

This is a training position the post holder will undertake training at University College London alongside working in service for the Essex PCN. They will be taught to deliver evidence based guided self-help interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. They will also be taught how to deliver interventions in the community, for example, participation activities, training and group delivery. The post holder will use their newly developed skills to support children and young people who are referred into the service and trainees will receive supervision to support their professional development, as well as be expected to actively engage local communities.



Applicants will need to be ready to start work on 6th January 2025 and posts cannot be offered to candidates unless they can guarantee this start date.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff). The first contract received is a fixed term training contract that will support the candidate to completion of the course. Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in CEME Campus, Rainham, Essex, RM13 8EU (please note: in order to travel to this destination you will have to make the Dartford crossing and be aware of the ULEZ charges). Following successful completion of training, newly qualified therapists are offered a six-month preceptorship period. The preceptorship package provides opportunity to consolidate knowledge and build confidence through reflective learning with an allocated mentor.

Skills and Experience:

Essential:

• Core Professional training or qualification, or able to demonstrate that they meet the KSA requirements set by the BABCP.
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent in a discipline connected to mental health (or ability to study at third year undergraduate degree level).
• Membership of the BABCP (from the time that the course commences).
• Availability to attend university as required.
• Experience of working in mental health services, including risk management.
• An understanding of anxiety and depression and how it presents in Primary Care.
• An understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies.
• Ability to meet agreed/specified service targets.
• Ability to manage own caseload and time.
• IT literacy and the ability to use patient record information systems, diary systems and maintain clinical records in a timely and accurate manner.
• Evidence of values that are consistent with the NHS constitution and VHG’s values.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including telephone skills.
• Interpersonal skills to engage and develop working alliances with colleagues and patients, including the ability to develop good therapeutic relationships and inter-agency relationships.
• Evidence of an openness to learning new knowledge and skills.
• High level of enthusiasm and motivation.
• Willingness to travel, which may include overnight stays on occasion, as and when required.

Desirable:

• Evidence of foundation level or sustained CPD in CBT.
• Evidence of supervised CBT practice.
• Experience of working in Primary Care/Talking Therapies services.
• Worked in a service where agreed targets are in place demonstrating clinical outcomes.

Other Requirements:

• A Disclosure and Barring check (DBS, formerly CRB) will be required by the service for appointment to post.
