Trainee Traffic Management Operatives – Torquay

Our clients require Traffic Management Operatives to carry out tasks such as setting up temporary traffic lights, manning road closures ensuring all schemes run smoothly and efficiently during each working day.

Due to the nature of the industry each role would require a certain flexibility and must be able to work both days and nights, including some weekends as required.

Successful candidates for the role of TM Operative should have

Ability to work as part of a team
Ability to carry out work to a high standard
Good communication skills
Good timekeeping skills
Willingness and flexibility to undertake some shifts out of normal working hours
Willingness to carry out other tasks upon request
Ability to always maintain Health and Safety standards
A can do and responsible attitude to work.

Applicants must

Hold a minimum 12D TTMBC, T1/T2 or above
Have a full UK manual driving licence with no more than 6 points
Minimum 1 year driving experience
Be able to pass a Drug & Alcohol test when required

Hours of work:

Monday – Friday, days or nights with some weekend and bank holidays when required

Rate of Pay:

Up to £144 per shift to start with increased payments for weekend and bank holiday work

These will be PAYE positions so you will benefit from:

The Trainee Surveyor role:

You’ll have responsibility from day one; your time will be split between “on the job” training and working on live projects/contracts. You’ll learn all the skills you’ll need for a bright future in our growing business from our experienced Surveyors, Managing Surveyors, Commercial Managers and Business Managers.

As a Trainee Surveyor, you will learn how to actively price materials and labour for our repairs and maintenance workstream, focusing on reducing costs and improving efficiencies, therefore having a real impact on our profitability and our commercial success.

How will you do this?


Initially supporting, but developing responsibility for the financial and technical aspects of the contract, including procurement, invoicing, payments, cash flow and cost control
You will learn to understand how to create cost efficiencies where possible, maximising value and ultimately making a profit
Collaboration- you will meet and work with direct labour and subcontractors, understanding their roles and expectations of the service we deliver in the response product
We will instil confidence in your communication, to develop and maintain relationships with your team, customers, subcontractors, suppliers, and our client
You will learn how to procure materials and sub contractors, through negotiation skills
You will support and learn how to produce monthly commercial reports, including Cost Value Reconciliations, so you become accountable for the cost and profit of the contract
As your training progresses, you will be involved in tendering and winning new work and managing relationships with our key clients.


You may not identify with all the terminology, but that is where the Trainee Surveyor programme, your mentor and the business will support you in your development journey.


You will join other trainees in attending a structured modular training programme delivered by our own Academy, and, depending on your experience, you could also achieve further professional qualifications externally i.e. Level 4 Apprenticeship Quantity Surveying.

On completion of your training scheme, you will begin on the Ian Williams Surveyor pathway, and we are proud to say that many of our trainees have progressed to management roles within Ian Williams.

Who you are

As a minimum you will need to be educated to at least A-level standard, or equivalent i.e Level 3. You will have achieved a Maths GCSE (or equivalent) grade 4/C or above.

Although not essential to your application, a surveying related qualification, or industry experience would be advantageous.

You may have completed some work experience in the industry already, or be completely new to it – but either way we would expect you to show passion and acknowledgment/ understanding for the work we do.

You would describe yourself as having a logical, analytical approach, an interest in numeracy/ maths, excellent IT skills. You enjoy engaging with a wide variety of people, including internal and external stakeholders, whether its building rapport within the team, negotiating or building relations with new contacts.

WAI Power Ltd are looking to recruit a Trainee Cable Jointer/Mate in the Torquay, Devon area.

All Training, PPE and tooling is provided.

This position is to work with our experienced cable jointers and assist with their daily work as well as on job training and attend formal cable jointing courses including a City and Guilds in electricity distribution to potentially become a Cable Jointer themselves.

A part of the qualifications required to become a cable jointer the city and guilds has a physics and maths segment. GCSE science and maths at C or above would be beneficial.


Your duties will include preparation of equipment,
Cable installation into ducts or open trenches,
Preparing cables for jointing and terminating,
General housekeeping on site,
Sharing the driving to and from site with the Jointer.
Over time and possible overnight stays may be required.

You will be required to hold a Full UK driving licence and be willing to provide a drugs test at anytime throughout employment.

The work is on new construction sites based throughout the South West.
