We have an opening for a staff nurses/ trainee injector to join our busy Ophthalmology Out patients department. The post holder will be placed on a 7 day contract but at present will work Monday - Friday in core clinic hours
You will work with a dedicated team where you will be encouraged to develop and enhance your nursing skills within the speciality.
The post holder is responsible for the assessment of patient care needs and development, implementation and evaluation of care, both for a specific group of patients and supporting the care of all patients.
As a nurse you will assist in the management and organisation of work as required within the eye outpatient setting, ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times, providing support for junior and unqualified staff.
You will play a key role in the supervision and assessment of all learners and unregistered staff, providing a teaching role and acting as a named supervisor.
Predominantly your role will be to train as a nurse injector which will be fully supported by the Directorate
Run clinics both Nurse led and doctor clinics, efficiently.
Support the wider team to keep the smooth transition of patients through the department, ensuring all necessary diagnostic testing is carried out prior to meeting the practitioner.
Manage the clinic in the absence of senior team
Support manager to bring evidence based practice into the ophthalmic service.
We are a multidisciplinary team consisting of qualified nurses, Technicians and HCAs we currently work Mon - Fri but may be moving to 7 day working in the future.
There is an expectation that you will complete the ophthalmic course eventually.
You will be supported by an experienced member of the team for the first month to give you experience and confidence

Support students within the environment who come to learn.
Undertake specific ophthalmic nursing care / skills as required by the service.
Work within the MDT team.
Communicate effectively with the MDT/Patients/Relatives and staffing team.
Act as a role model within the ophthalmic team.
Assume responsibility of the environment in the absence of a manger.
Be responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care.
Assist in developing an environment that supports the value of nursing care.
Carry out clinical duties in accordance with National, Trust and local standards and policies.
Advise patients/clients of the promotion of health and prevention of illness.
Take responsibility for the correct use and operation of medical equipment in accordance with relevant Trust and national guidance.
Assist in the monitoring of standards of care within the Trust’s Governance Framework and agreed priorities, contributing to audit where appropriate

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.
