We are seeking to appoint a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to work within our purpose developed Learning Support department. This is an exciting opportunity to join Burnside College as we continue to develop our learning support provisions and professional development pathways for staff. Our HLTAs supervise and lead learning activities in our two distinct learning support provisions which focus on transitions and readiness for learning and sensory needs.

The successful candidate will:

• Supervise the delivery of the curriculum within the school’s learning support functions
• Communicate effectively and sensitively with pupils to adapt to their needs and support their learning
• Demonstrate expertise and skills in understanding the needs of all pupils (including specialist expertise as appropriate) and know how to contribute effectively to the adaptation and delivery of support to meet individual needs
• Demonstrate an informed and efficient approach to teaching and learning by adopting relevant strategies to support the work of the teacher and improve student outcomes
• Support the inclusion of a target group of students with additional educational needs
• Lead on developing, delivering and monitoring bespoke plans for these students and liaise with home and external partners in relation to their effectiveness
• Support individual transition programmes for students joining Burnside and those transitioning into mainstream learning
• Support students to engage with external partners and extracurricular activities
• Act as an advocate for vulnerable students (EHA, CSC and LAC reviews)
• Develop intervention activities for individual and small groups of students in school and through extra curricular provision
• Arrange and/or participate in, for the target group of students, activities for lunch and break times
• Participate in elements of an extended school day including breakfast and after school activities
• Maintain efficient and effective lines of communication between the school and parents
• Take account of a student’s individual needs and seek to maximise motivation through the use of a wide variety of approaches and behaviour management strategies
• Use effective behaviour management strategies consistently in line with the school’s policy and procedures
• Support the SENCo with staff allocation as required

The Alton is an inclusive inner London primary school situated next to Richmond Park. In October 2023 we set up a new ASD resource base to provide a supportive education for students with autism.

Your main priorities will be to support a small specialist provision class tailored to young people on the autistic spectrum, working with them to ensure their educational and emotional needs are met and promoting positive behaviour in a nurturing environment. We are looking for band 2 Medical Laboratory Assistant’s for the Central Specimen Reception Department. These are full time permanent positions (37.5 hours per week).

The department provides a 24/7 service and the successful candidates will be required to participate in the shift system to cover early, late, weekend and bank holiday rosters. Some night duties may also be required.

These roles will be based at the Royal London Hospital, however cross site working will be required and the successful applicant may be required to work at any of our NHS ESEL Pathology Partnership sites.

The laboratories are UKAS and HCPC accredited. Our commitment to supporting continuing professional development is evidenced by an excellent training record.

Main duties of the job – The duties will be varied and we have a team of MLA’s who undertake tasks on a rotational basis.

The post holder is expected to work as part of a team to receive, sort, book distribute specimens within Pathology. Core duties involve receipting of specimens and entering data into the laboratory information systems, basic preparation of specimens where appropriate, and placing them into racks on automated tracks or taking them to laboratory areas for processing.
We are looking for people with a positive attitude to working in a flexible manner and with the ability to work accurately when under pressure to meet deadlines.

The successful candidates should have the ability to follow written protocol with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.

The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership  is an arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.  The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health.

The Pathology Partnership is based on well-established models for pathology networks, with the Royal London Hospital becoming the main hub laboratory for the network and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at all other Hospital sites.

Pathology is made up of the following services - Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry; Infectious Diseases including Microbiology and Virology; Cellular Pathology including Histopathology, non-gynae Cytology and mortuary services; Immunology; Cytogenetics and Molecular Haematology; Immunophenotyping; Clinical Transplantation and Retinoblastoma.

To undertake production of questionnaires, data collection, setting up of databases and spreadsheets, data analysis, and the production of reports and presentation of summaries to colleagues using IT and statistical programmes, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and SPSS. 2. To assist in the design and implementation of audit projects. 3. To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research to assist qualified clinical psychologists in evidence-based practice in individual and team work, and work with other team members. General To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the postholders professional and team/operational manager(s). To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society and Trust policies and procedures. To undertake specific administrative duties as required, which will be a key element of supporting the service within this role. Under the supervision of a qualified psychologist, to assist with the production of materials to support the service in a variety of ways as it develops, such as developing posters and power point presentations to promote the service, developing service maps and reviews of wider systems, to support signposting etc. To perform other duties of a similar kind appropriate to the grade, which may be required from time to time by their Psychology Manager. To work in a highly emotive atmosphere and be able to communicate sensitive and complex information, whilst always maintaining a high degree of professionalism.
