The HP Legal team is responsible for all of HP’s legal matters, including support of global business units, supply chain, government relations, brand security, intellectual property, ethics and compliance, and legal counsel representation in every market.

The Legal Counsel V primarily supports HP Workforce Solutions, a new global business unit that is scaling and innovating HP’s services and software business across the entire lifecycle of our customers, who are CIO’s and IT decision makers.
WS requires that its lawyers understand services business from professional services, customer support and delivery, managed solutions, integrated leasing and financing, software and digital services, developer ecosystems, and secondary markets for HP’s refurbished products across both direct and channel routes to market globally. Lawyers for WS adapt to the varying risk profiles for legacy versus incubation businesses. In addition to supporting client-led initiatives and business goals, WS lawyers take initiative, practice continuous improvement, and propose scalable solutions. WS lawyers help lead business clients to simple, pragmatic approaches to meet business goals in a timely and business goals in a timely manner.
This attorney would be a generalist, providing legal guidance for specific teams within WS. This job requires significant experience negotiating large services opportunities, subcontracting agreements and software terms with large enterprise customers, in order to leverage that expertise for process improvements. This lawyer has developed skills of listening, agility, and willingness to learn new areas of the business or law, as needed to support WS’s objectives. This attorney collaborates with HP’s attorneys in the countries that sell and delivery solutions. She or he will develop internal websites with guidance; support team building and innovation within the entire legal team; and communicate with internal clients and lawyers who may not be familiar with Workforce Solutions.

We are looking for an experienced attorney who has negotiated services, software, and incubation opportunities with large customers as well as inbound contracts, and wants to apply that knowledge to development of new offers and contracting vehicles. The position is an individual contributor role and will report to the VP, WS.
In this role you will:
- Provide legal expertise in support of teams within the HP Workforce Solutions business unit.
- Partner within a larger legal team supporting hardware business units, supply chain, and key alliances.
- Understand key stakeholder needs and develop solutions for maximum impact.
- Work with internal stakeholders on new commercial relationships and disputes for relationships owned within Workforce Solutions
- Exercise independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and criteria for achieving objectives.
- Contribute to the development of innovative principles and ideas.
- Communicate effectively across functions, siloes and multiple management levels, regardless of colleagues’ experience with services and solutions.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the business on legal issues and legal impact of business issues
- Identify and resolve complex legal issues requiring in-depth consideration of multiple factors.
- Lead or assist with the resolution of contract disputes with existing customers, partners, and vendors.
- Plan and provide training to internal clients on designated legal topics.
- Provide thought leadership on legal support models within a budget envelope.
- Support HP legal’s commitment to continuous improvement by identifying and leading solutions with GLA and internal clients to improve quality.
The successful candidate will have:
- a Juris Doctor from a top tier, nationally recognized law school plus an active bar membership from any of the fifty states or the District of Columbia;
- 10 - 15 years of relevant legal experience (from a combination of law firm, government, and/or in-house experience) in services, software, leasing and financing, and solutions
- experience representing a major IT company on sales contracts and subcontracting matters a plus;
