The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for a Business Development Manager position within our Onshore Wind Commercial & Investments team, reporting into one of our experienced Principal Managers.
The Onshore Wind team is responsible for developing investment cases for projects from planning consent up to Final Investment Decision and handover to the Construction team. The focus of the team is to support our strategy for growth and our ambition to lead the way in the development of onshore wind through application of our project management framework and commercialisation of projects, leading to the achievement of investment approval.
This role will focus on delivering our significant pipeline of Welsh projects and would ideally be based in our newly opened Cardiff office, though we are flexible on location.
Location: Based from one of our offices with the UK (Durham, London or Edinburgh). We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, meaning you can work comfortably from home with our offices as your base location.

What you’ll be doing You’ll project manage the delivery of consented onshore wind developments identifying commercial opportunities for onshore wind or (where necessary) other renewable technologies.You will:

Identify innovative route to market opportunities and optimise revenue opportunities.

Manage project internal governance processes for each project, involving relevant internal stakeholders as appropriate. This will include project reporting on progress against key milestones.

Facilitate the decision-making process during the key steps of the project: Investment case approval, pre-construction activities, start of construction, start of operations, procurement, project financing, etc.

Manage project budgets and costs, providing appropriate project management documentation.

Lead or support acquisition/disposal/partnership transactions including origination, due diligence, structuring, appraisal and the negotiation, review and execution of legal documentation to maximise opportunity and mitigate risks.

Produce reports and board papers to provide business updates on project progress and other key activities.

Communicate effectively with colleagues across all levels of the business.
What do you need to be great at this role?
As as Business Development Manager you will have a working knowledge and understanding of project life cycles and risks for long term investments. It would be advantageous if you had experience in the delivery of renewables projects, particularly onshore wind.
A technical/commercially focused degree would be beneficial or an ability to demonstrate commensurate experience.
Experience of engagement across a matrix structure (e.g., finance, technical, analysis and legal teams) is essential to the role as is building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders including co-investors and policy makers.
The successful candidate will manage multi-disciplinary subject-matter experts (e.g. engineering, procurement, legal etc) to de-risk projects and prepare them for investment decisions, secure a route to market and develop clear delivery plan prior to handover to the Construction team.
