The Patient Safety Program Manager (PSPM) Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to the management program aspects. The PSPM Supervisor demonstrates performance and leadership that is broad enough to impact the standard of care and safety of staff while caring for all patients throughout the continuum of care. The PSPM is the facility's key person to help build and implement patient safety systems and promote the culture of safety within Veterans Health Administration (VHA) facilities and for Veteran patients in all healthcare settings. The position reports directly to Chief of Quality and Patient Safety with direct access to the Medical Center Director (MCD)
The Registered Nurse PSPM role will include, but is not limited to the following duties:
- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age specific components.
- Implements quality staff education, orientation, competencies
- Provides quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation related to the Patient Safety program
- Coordinates and implements patient safety policies and Joint Patient Safety Reporting (JPSR)
- Ensures Root Cause Analysis are completed per NCPS guidelines
- Accountable for planning, organizing, directing and evaluating Quality program and staff
- Recommends actions to VA Medical facility director related to patient safety
- Collaborates with HRO coordinator and System Redesign Specialist to implement patient safety performance activities
- Provides training and coordinates patient safety activities
- Serves as Subject Matter Expert and provides documented outcomes
- Translates policies, theories and strategies into action within the facility
- Supervises Quality and Patient Safety Staff
