The Advanced Medical Support Assistant in Nursing Service at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare system in Little Rock and/or North Little Rock, Arkansas is assigned to one or more of the following Units of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center: Medical/Surgical, Community Living Center, 6C Hematology/Oncology, Dialysis, Hospice & Palliative Care, Critical Care, Step-down, Emergency Department and/or any other inpatient/outpatient area as needed.

The primary duties of the Medical Support Assistant (Advanced) may include but are not limited to:

• Obtaining patients' funds for non-ambulatory patients if family members are not present at time of discharge or transfer
• Performing monitoring of the patient safety monitoring system
• Serving as a preceptor for competency validation for the Patient Safety Monitoring System.

Performs technical and administrative support operations for a federal correctional facility.

Responsible for time and attendance record keeping of all assigned employees.

Responsible for maintaining documentation regarding leave and pay as appropriate.

Ensures time is correctly keyed into the system, verifies overtime has been approved before keying and confirms staff are entitled to additional pay such as overtime, night differential and Sunday/holiday pay.

Resolves and answers questions regarding payroll issues.

The Chief of Education provides senior leadership and oversight for daily clinical and administrative operations within the Education Department as directed by the Associate Director for Patient Care Services (ADPCS). Provides direct supervision over the following areas to include, but not limited to Nursing Education, Diabetes Education Program, Competency Program, Coach Mentor program, and the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Program. Additionally, is responsible for New Employee Orientation, New Supervisor Training programs, and the facility LEAD program.

The Chief of Education demonstrates creative approaches in the provision of education and training for patients and staff within the main facility and Community Based Outreach Clinics (CBOCs). Responsible for generating and disseminating new knowledge relevant to clinical practice, nursing administration, and nursing education. The Chief of Education is directly responsible for education needs assessments; provision, design, and evaluation of staff and patient education activities; provision of Library Services by the Learning Resource Center (LRC); and acts as the education liaison to all medical center services and the VISN Education Council. The Chief of Education has fiscal oversight of education program funding, scholarship program management, and LRC budget. Responsible for budget planning, forecasting, management, coaching and supervision of nursing and administrative support staff, program development, performance improvement leadership, labor management activities and participation in the interdisciplinary team.

The Chief of Education may serve as the Designated Learning Officer (DLO) for the medical center. The DLO oversees, assesses, and strengthens Veterans Affairs (VA) training and education mission. The DLO ensures compliance with all federal, state, and VHA laws and regulations, and all accrediting body standards. They are also responsible for the Veterans Affairs Student Trainee Experience Program (VA STEP) and nursing trainees. They will consult with VHA's Employee Education System (EES) as needed to ensure compliance with staff education functions such as mandatory training, Talent Management System (TMS), availability of learning resources, and all Veteran Affairs Central Office (VACO) reporting related to nursing education. Provides administrative support for the VA National Nursing Education Initiative (NNEI) scholarship program.

The Optometrist duties will be performed in the Eye Clinic at The Garner Veterans Administration Health Care Center, Garner, North Carolina. Maintains accurate tool inventories for all areas of tool issuance. Etches all new tools entering the institution. Surveys broken tools. Issues all Class A and AA tools. Inspects all areas of tool storage for accurate tool markings, inventories, and the proper classification of tools.

Trains new staff regarding tool control and the different classifications of tools. Responsible for all lost tool reports and provides follow-up procedures for lost tools. Supervises and instructs inmates regarding the proper use and care of tools and equipment.
