Telent are now on the lookout for a Design Manager to join the Wireless Telecoms team. Due an influx of work and projects within the Wireless Telecoms space, Telent are in a position to hire another experienced Wireless Telecommunications Design Manager. This is a hybrid working role that will see you attend the Warwick office at least 2 days per week, work from home and travel to customer site if and when needed.
The role of Design Manager will see you lead a of a team of Wireless Telecommunications Design Engineers, CAD Technicians and Sub-contractors, overseeing project design work. The successful Design Manager will play an integral role within the Design Department and provide support from a management perspective in an Acquisition, Design and Build service package. The Design Manager will also take on an active role in managing any external resource, reviewing the quality of services provided and monitoring performance. The Design Manager will assist the Head of Design for the management of various Wireless Telecoms related projects, proactively ensuring all design activities required at each stage of the project are completed in a timely manner, and resolving design issues as/when necessary.
Design Manager - What you'll do:
- Liaise with client(s) to agree fees and working processes
- Ensure client satisfaction is kept high and is maintained
- Oversee and support project work
- Approve and sign-off of payments to suppliers
- Deliver all design work and design services on time, within Service Level Agreements
- Work closely with Design Engineers to ensure drawings are issued Right First Time (RFT)
- Lead change management within the team to drive improvement and quality
- Report to the Head of Design on progress, movement and obstacles of design projects
- Manage others in accordance with Telent HR management procedures
- Report financial performance of the team
- Day-to-day management of team members including Design Engineers and CAD Technicians
- Effective management of design suppliers (sub-contractors) providing various services to the business
- Ensure all team members and suppliers understand requirements of their specific roles within the team
- Read, review, evaluate and interpret designs and drawings during production phase
- Ensure customer needs are met in a timely and cost-effective manner
- Share ideas for best practice and process improvement
- Review client and manufacturers specifications to aid production of site designs
- Attend client meeting's representing the design department
- Effectively and accurately communicate programme/project information to customers and internal teams
Design Manager - Who you are:
The successful Design Manager will already be working in or has come from a Wireless Telecommunications / Wireless Telecoms background. This is a niche industry and environment, and prior experience of managing a Design team will help you hit the ground running. Several years of experience of Wireless Infrastructure Telecoms Design is essential. The Design Manager will have come from either a CAD and Engineering background and have a solid understanding of the processes when taking a Design from specification stage to Build stage. Lastly, the Design Manager will be confident in front of customers and stakeholders for Design updates, progress reporting and fixing any issues or problems head on. This role requires travel to the Warwick office at least 2 days per week as well as working from home.
Design Engineer - Key requirements:
- Technical knowledge around Wireless Telecommunications, and able to understand specifications
- Management skills - able to lead and support a team of Design Engineers and CAD Technicians
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills and ability to build relationships
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including MS Word, and MS Excel
- Good decision making and analytical skills
- Organised and has a systematic approach with good attention to detail
- Ability to collaborate with others
- Knowledge or understanding of Civil & Structural or Electrical Engineering preferable, but not essential
